I would also say it’s one of the reasons they are getting so much flack at the moment. If the extent of data brokering was crappy mailers I would be far less passionate about the topic.

Here’s a pretty literal example: https://variety.com/2017/biz/news/alec-baldwin-snl-photo-new... *I don’t know this example is particularly harmful but nonetheless it illustrates things don’t always transfer

I have to agree with him on Unity, the reaction to it seemed to outweigh it’s presentation. I gave it a try and liked some aspects but ultimately ended up on Cinnamon. I realize that’s a totally subjective statement but I was surprised by s

Particularly that last point stands out to me. Lots of automations I’ve seen assume the customer knows the problem. Which they may not they are contacting with a symptom to which they may not know the problem. They aren’t necessarily going

I agree but really only to a certain extent. Coaxing out of humans what thier actual issue is, is more of an art than a science. IMHO and from antecdotal experience this problem seems easier to automate than I think it really is which is wh

Exactly, the bottles are a clear and understandable symptom (literal, figurative, or somewhere inbetween) not the sickness they are trying to highlight.

Also maybe they dont care. When you make it clear that you aren’t going to share the wealth with your frontline employees. They probably don’t care what your wealth looks like. I grew up with many union democrats around my father. A lot of

This is really the question that throw’s people for loops in my experience. Not contextually what you were addressing but in comparison to my parents in the US. Many things are much more inexpensive jeans, shoes (functional not trendiest),

There is so much to appreciate here. The bit about starting to create an elvish language really stands out to me in painting his passion for this world.

Totally I had a power mac G5 i was using as a vpn, vnc server, and for some random legacy software up until last year. Eventually replaced it (sold it 10 years later, crazy!) for the poor power efficiency but thats not the machines fault it

I don’t consider myself phone addicted but it could be sobering to see my app usage broken into times instead of battery consumption percentages.

I really have to agree with this. It used to be a selling point for me that Apple gave free OS upgrades (cost baked into hardware I know). But lately I’m on the fence wether some of this is really a free OS upgrade or really even fully just

My understanding is that this is more or less how Gary Vaynerchuk sky-rocketed to the center of media through a similar(ish) comment about Facebook. Best of luck!

The part about being “unemployed” to me immediately made me think about the prevalence of future tense pressures for modern kids. I’m in my mid 20s and I went through it. While my parents had good intentions and many others I’m sure did too

Speaking of Sal Soghoian I’ve always loved this little party trick Applescript that sings Happy Birthday. I can’t remember the old Mac site I got it from but I remember him being credited for it. https://hastebin.com/becorik

Same for me I’ve tried a few apps but always run into a few quirks that steered me back to the site itself. It’s essentially a pinned tab in Safari on my iPhone at this point.

That would make sense to me. Not to over simplify the issue but I would settle with Amazon having skin in the game period. They seem to be extremely good at engineering ways to deflect responsibility (financially or ethically).

Phrased another way this is a great example of why the breakdown of a cumulative score (verbal vs quant, etc) is important on standardized tests.

One of my favorite quotes I’ve mentioned on HN a few times applies here. It’s only a crime if it occurs on the street level anything above that and it’s called politics.

That was my first takeaway too. It’s one of the biggie no-no’s in banking to not know the customer. I’m at a loss on why that would be ok here. I’m also fine with the manufacturer taking the liability but for the retailer to say we don’t kn
