That humans are just machines and there's no such thing as free will. I already knew that to some degree before reading the book, but it frames it in a particularly bleak way.

I will warn you that reading Neuropath left me feeling depressed for a couple weeks. It's a great book, but the conclusions it might lead you to may not make you happy.

IMDB uses something like this. It's called a "weighted" rating system. In the IMDB version what happens is that you calculate the average of all ratings of all items, and then push an item's rating towards the average. T

Obligatory plug for everyone to read The Shockwave Rider by John Brunner. It was published in 1975 and nails the technology of the 90s so accurately that it's quite freaky to read.

Yeah, I have no idea what's available in Europe. If what you've tried is not based on cultured nuts, I'd assume it's not very good. Miyoko's Creamery also makes a fantastic cultured butter that's based on cashe

See my previous comment at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15113405 about this. There are excellent butter, yogurt, and cheese products made without dairy. The cheese is made from nuts, not plant-based milks.

In my experience, the best non-dairy cheeses are made from culturing nuts. Miyoko's Creamery and Punk Rawk Labs in the US both use cashews (and sometimes include other nuts) as the base, then culture them. They both taste fantastic to

Interstellar is solidly science fantasy. Arrival is arguably science fantasy since it's central conceit isn't very sciencey (amazing movie though). The Expanse is borderline since there's basically a magic substance (the prot

That's what Delta calls Economy Comfort, which is economy with a little more leg room and earlier boarding. At 6'7" it's well worth the extra cost for me.

Yep, read about this and thought of House of Leaves. It's not quite as elaborate (no additional objects) but the intent is similar, I think.

This is very cool. One thing that I wish the docs made clearer was that this is a wrapper around `reveal.js`, so if you're familiar with reveal, then learning this tool is just a little more effort.

Weird Al is really brilliant. One of the things I think he does so well is capture the _spirit_ of the artist when he writes an original "in the style of" song. If I didn't know better I'd swear that Dare To Be Stupid wa

Actually, the Tea House nearby. I _think_ it's lamian. At least it has that super chewy texture. I have no idea if they're fresh made or not, though. Still, about as good as you're going to get in the area, I think.

I love lamian. It's hard to find in the US (especially here in Minnesota) but there's one Szechuan place near that does a really nice dish with that type of noodles in chili vinegar sauce with crushed peanuts.

I don't see these two goals as being mutually exclusive. Even if they are, it'd be good to aim for a balance, rather than just choosing one entirely over the other. They're both good goals for a conference.
