Ephemerality of a phenomenon does not mean ephemerality of it's effects. Just because LINE might be gone 5 years from now, does not mean all cultural change it might have brought around will just revert.

Do you indeed have good rote learning skills tho? In my experience the people that do well at TopCoder etc. tend to be good rote learners. Sounds to me like you actually got accepted for the smartness, not the other way around. Most of the

This is exactly what 1x non-participating liquidation preference is. The 1x is 1x of the invested amount, not a profit multiplier. https://vcexperts.com/buzz_articles/185

The most common argument for VC 1x liquidation preference is to avoid the situation where the VC looses while the founder gets rich. Say the VC puts in 5M, gets 20% equity. The founder sells for 5M, gets 4M, big success for the founder, tot

What I hope for is not US coexisting with China, EU or any other state. I hope that more freedom-leaning countries open up to immigration and blur or erase the concept of being a citizen. In fact I hope everyone sees the current status quo

I think it's just that there were more communist countries in the last century. It's easier to dissociate communism from Stalin than Nazism (and Fascism) from Hitler. Also it's harder to link communism with genocide on an ide

The drone in this stunt is operated by YuanTong, a parcel delivery company, not Alibaba. Also Alibaba does not (generally?) maintain distribution centers or hold inventory. So from a strategic perspective drones don't mean to Alibaba w

Hmmmm, maybe. I assumed the "right to privacy" part was the actual point. Or the next paragraph saying that you might not want to hide stuff now but maybe in the future. Such a spray and pray approach.

Lost me at the "I have nothing to hide" section. The first few paragraphs are trying to convince you that you actually do have stuff to hide.

I don't think it's strictly bad. Having said that there's nothing more blissful than spitting out 100-500+ lines of code that work (or makes sense as an outline) without looking anything up.

TLDR 3.6% of households headed by adults younger than 30 owned stakes in private companies, 10.6% in 1989, 6.1% in 2010. Private company != startup. The article is irrelevant to the startups we talk about here.

Hybrid is hard. Remote works best if the whole culture is built around it. I'd avoid companies that are not remote-only. Or at least remote-first (say 70% employees remote). If they're like "remote is okay too" - avoid.

Ironically though, if there was to be no GFW in China, at least half of the web tech sector would disappear. Startups are in a weird place of suffering the most but also benefiting the most from the GFW.
