"Golang dependency hell in Haunts The Manse game" is not only a very editorialized title for this link, but it's also factually incorrect. Here are some choice quotes about the codebase that have nothing to do with dependencies in Go: Synta

Not to start a language war, but this blog post demonstrates two things Python got right that Ruby got wrong. First, in Python, there's only one way to express a boolean "and". The && operator is left out. Second, this post demonstr

Near the bottom of this article is an interesting post mortem of RethinkDB's transparent salary policy. When it was posted years ago [1] folks here took pretty kindly to it, though some were skeptical [2]. I'm kinda disappointed (who doesn'

The fascinating tl;dr: The British lost their English accents around the turn of the 19th century. As far as rhotic r's go, Americans still mostly speak the way Brits and Americans did in the 18th century.

One solution to the fmt.Println problem is not to use it at all. There's a built in println function that works alright for debugging messages and requires no import. http://play.golang.org/p/y5XX4RDTW5

I'm not sure why it's possible to change the division sign, but using a colon (":") to indicate a fraction is confusing given that it's generally used for odds. ( 0.1 + 0.2 )/( 1/3 * 12 ) = 3/40 3:40 = "three to forty odds" = 3/43

This is a good opportunity to remind people that reading the title of a patent and looking at the pictures does not suffice for understanding what's actually being patented. You should get in the habit of actually reading the claims, since

Deep within the 1000+ comments on the accompanying reddit thread is a really interesting fact: Reddit is not (currently) profitable. [1] I was already a reddit gold subscriber, but the fact that at the moment they're literally running into

The tl;dr of this article is that the author summarizes some really interesting leads on automated letter spacing, but so far hasn't come up with a winner. There are a number of loose ends in there that might be interesting for others to pi

I think the intended idea is U($) = k*$, a linear relationship between dollars earned and utility, or (its derivative) a horizontal line on marginal utility. Typical economically rational adults have utility curves that eventually flatten o

This debate reminds me of the battle over an 8-bit remix of the cover of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" [1]. The discussion here at that time [2] was strongly in favor of the person doing the repurposing, with folks bemoaning the fact that the

I've been waiting for this sort of thing for the longest. The first time I saw the callback passed to a callback of a callback's callback style in Node.js, I wondered why the code couldn't look as nice as the async C++ I'd written at OkCupi

The better explanation is that there are a series of fallback actions for all of the top level functions that delegate to the .__whatever__ methods. For example, if you write a class that quacks like a collection that has a length (it imple
