In the case of the Phoenix project, you may be misattributing what were references to Goldratt’s The Goal (almost certainly if the book is outside the technology space). Really the reference is to the underlying model, Theory of Constraints

Common, and it has both upsides and downsides. Some deviations are positive innovations. The challenge is to recognise and take responsibility for downward drift without squashing innovation.

Historically a fan of Toyota and I loved the RAV4 hybrid I had until a couple of years ago. Saw the writing on the wall though when they started their “self-charging hybrid” nonsense, like we don’t all know a euphemism when we hear one

That’s not a bad starting point. There’s more than one kind of feedback though! No matter how regularly you reflect on the process, if you’re ploughing through an unchanging backlog it’s still going to be a mediocre experience. Worse if the

That’s not at all how I use HMW. For me it’s not a prompt but a way to re-frame answers as challenges when to solutionise would be premature. As the article acknowledges, HMW long predates Design Thinking. I have some links on Challenge Map

2021: Tagging is overrated I remember enjoying this piece first time round. Not sure how well it has aged though. Tagging seems nowhere near as exciting as it did 16 years ago.

Yes, though word is much broader in application than that. See for example generative design [1]. Pattern languages also, and the deliberate juxtaposition of things as a creative catalyst. Sort of in line with the article I have two metapho

I wonder if it is yet possible to lease secondhand EVs? I’ve leased two Toyota hybrids (both new) and for me it’s the way to go. (But don’t get me started on Toyota’s “self-charging hybrid nonsense”)

Plenty of posts critical of Agile. Personally I think that’s a shame but I fully get where they’re coming from. Scale it up and you tend to amplify the dysfunctions, especially when no-one asked for it to be done to them in the first place.

The need to avoid overloading the system exists regardless of whether it’s public, private, or a mixture of the two. Just look at New York and India for examples from very different cultures and political systems. Edit: not to mention Italy

The cybernetics community was very aware of the limitations of command and control. If anything, ahead of its time on that philosophically as well as having the maths to prove it. Read some Stafford Beer (the father of Viable System Model).
