They already do similar stuff like cross referencing applinks at .well-know/apple-app-site-association with the associated domains bundled in your binary. What I'm suggesting is a predicate like only allow NSPasteboard access with

FireTV is a roughly a quarter of the OTT market in the US. Content providers could likely boycott the platform and survive if they got together and collectively stood against it.

Universal links on iOS do not work on the very first app launch, which is why developers have to resort to using techniques like copying the link out of the clipboard or associating a link to a user with a fingerprint. This isn't a pro

It’s not that grandiose or malevolent. It’s more like I just want a path to route to in my app on first launch.

No, I’m looking in the clipboard for a valid path in my app and routing to it found and discarding if not. All routing is local to the client app and nothing is sent to the server. If we’re taking hundreds of thousands of clients and it wor

This guy asked for examples for my position and I gave them. All I can do is stand up for my position despite it being unpopular.

I just need a path for routing man. I’m not asking for a lot here. I don’t even want to use the pasteboard for this in the first place.

you might be missing a key piece of my particular scenario, and it’s that the thing I’m reading from your clipboard is something I put there from my website. The only thing that’s being exposed is something akin to path variable. The purpos

If we can do it in a way that reduces friction and doesn’t break the flow, then absolutely yes.

Honestly, I’d prefer if we didn’t need the paste prompt all together. I just want a way to universal link into my app on the very first launch. The pasteboard and fingerprinting gave us that, but apple has given us no feasible alternative.

That’s a great take, and I agree with a lot of that, and I also feel like targeted ads would help the company that work with.

Your concern isn’t addressed by Apple’s solution to this. The user just agrees or disagrees and it’s a black box as to what happens after that.

I get what you’re saying but have to disagree because it’s kind of different. Apple has to review our apps before they’re released and they certainly have capability to review a trusted pasteboard copying predicate as I am suggesting. They

Why else would the VC give you money to build anything in the first place? We couldn’t even be having this discussion without the decades of VC spending that’s gone into technology.

Apple may revoke my certificate whenever it’s abused beyond its intended purpose. Hell, they could go further than that and only allow pasteboard access without a prompt iff the data matches a certain predicate that they approve. That would

If the CPM is lower, we need more ads achieve the same amount of revenue. Basic math. We don’t want to pack our experience with ads, but we literally need to post IDFA nerfing.

The only thing I’m reading from your pasteboard is a routing path that I’ve put there from my webpage, so what’s the risk exactly?

You definitely do for the first launch post install. The flow is click link, copy data or finger print, redirect to the App Store, install, user opens app for the first time, route to experience from finger print.

That's kind of my issue: In journalism it's hard for us to make money because we have a low amount of users who are wiling to pay to disable ads (or remove paywalls for that matter) while at the same time ads don't pay us eno

I'm not a marxist by any means, but breaking up the monopoly into smaller companies might make sense. The newspapers before them had similar regulations and faired well.
