Depends on the niche language one chooses, I think. But in the case of Clojure, a lot of companies are willing to hire you even without any previous Clojure knowledge, so long as you are otherwise an experienced developer and are interested

I really recommend people to take up niche programming languages (Clojure gets my recommendation) and find work in places where there aren't thousands of applicants per position, because I have found in those places management treats y

I experienced this a lot doing mainstream programming, but when I switched to niche things (Clojure), I never experienced that anymore. Companies trusted me, gave me (and other engineers) autonomy. Maybe try to look into some niche thing? I

If you're poor then a first-time non-violent crime can get you a life sentence in the U.S: https://federalcriminallawcenter.com/2013/01/non-violent-dru... So I figure the "softer" treatment really o

But they didn't reverse engineer anything, afaik. Their Android app is just talking to a Mac Mini somewhere in a closet, logged in with the users Apple account (or so was stated in one of the interviews).

Glad she got something for that awful treatment. But the thing is, this sort of thing doesn't really scale. A lot of (most?) people don't have the time/resources to attempt any of this and are too afraid to have a future job

How is this a fact? I'd like some references for that. And also, last I checked, negative treatment based on colour of skin (such as in this case NOT hiring a person) is, in fact, racist.

The disconnect is real indeed, and in my experience mostly solved with company get-togethers. After the first get-together, people have a much better idea of other people, vibe better together and thus have a lot more empathy as well. That

And we continue to be social animals over video chat. Harder in what sense? I hear this a lot, but I rarely hear concrete examples. Feels to me more that people are just not accustomed to fully online communication at work rather than that

Not sure why you can't just teach juniors how to work from home effectively, just how you teach them how to do their job. It's all part of the same thing. I've certainly helped juniors over a video call just as effectively as

Knowing what some of those three letter agencies have gotten caught doing, I'm not so sure this particular one would be so insane.

Has the number ever decreased? As in, have they actually paid things off? Without actual numbers, U.S feels increasingly like a high-school bully who borrows money and then threatens with violence when that money is wanted back.

Not true. If MacOS lacks physical RAM, it will get extra from swap on SSD, and will continue to function just fine.

Doesn't have a place for who, developers? Maybe. But your average company or person needing a blog has no idea what to do with, or what even is a static site generator. Most people do know of WordPress however, and how easy it is to us

Yup, fully agree. Thankfully for most of my client work I don't need WordPress theme-ing at all, so I have a custom plugin that disables that, and instead allows me to integrate into WP (so that I get all the WP core PHP functions as w

Mostly a Mac yeah, sometimes Windows. I’m not saying there is no fragmentation here, but the majority of apps are distributed in the same way, whereas on Linux, at least as per my experience, there is no consistency at all to speak of.

I didn’t even mention the means of obtaining the app, all of which you said applies to all operating systems, I was simply talking about the difficulty of installing one once you already have the app. In Windows it is mostly always an .exe

Part of the reason I’m not interested in using Linux is how fragmented the whole ecosystem is. There are a ten different ways to install apps, and not all apps available with a single method. Sometimes it’s a .deb, sometimes AppImage, somet
