Uhh.. India buys so many tanks, aircrafts, etc. because politicians here take a healthy cut on those deals. There's no strategy involved, it's pure business. Also, pointing at Pakistan as the enemy works because of long term cultural issues

I'm taking a hit on the exchange rate hoping for a future appreciation of bitcoin value. Basically, I wanted to speculate in bitcoins in a productive way. This was the best experiment I could think of in the short term. Also, the dollar

I hope they figure this out soon. This is the kind of thing that scares me and the primary reason that I decided against speculating in bitcoins. For someone like me who can't really afford to lose a lot of money, I need to trade in histori

The only use case I could think of was those ATM Pins that you receive which always say "destroy this letter after you memorize your pin". So you could email a pin/some sort of sensitive info and have some level of safety. Obviously the per

People going to jail for copyright infringement, which should really be a civil offense at best is pretty heinous in my books. It's not apartheid but I find it (the punishment) really odd that it's acceptable in today's world.

Not a windows user here but I remember that you can do something like this using Task Manager. Just right click on the process and see if you can set the CPU affinity or something similar for your browser.

I think that more than hacker news, y combinator has funded reddit which has more far reaching effects and contributions. Also, wasn't HN created for y combinator people to discuss stuff ? As I see it, HN is an investment by YC because time

People actually emulate a ton of games not available on virtual console. In fact, emulation is a pretty popular way for people to play fan translations of games that were never released in english (tales of phantasia, radical dreamers, etc.

If it's a forum style thing then discussion systems with a high number of pageviews per unique visitor (vbulletin/reddit/etc) will generally have very poor advertising revenue. Maybe you need to look at a different model though ? Sort of li

You're right, and the problem here is a naive understanding of advertising as a business model rather than it not being a good business model. I happened to go the opposite way. My first major project was an online advertising success. I na
