Wow, seriously, somebody asked me to do this too! They also offered me 50% of the business in return for codeing it - I refused. (and no, it didn't turn out to be eBay itself :P) All these wannabe entrepreneurs, I know I should applaud them

What are, for me as a user, and for "rich media content" developers, the advantages of Silverlight over Flash? Programming languages (just stick to interpreted, 'web' languages for this example), all do practically the same thing, but they

Personally, a Macbook Pro. I want a laptop to be fast to boot, reliable and nice to work on. Technically OSX is what does all this, but you asked which laptop you should buy, and you either get a Windows Vista or OSX machine. (not to mentio

As somebody who is pretty new (a few months), I would have to say HN is THE BEST community I know of. It actually blows my mind that the site is 100% public, most sites get trolls (or even just douche bags) no matter what, but all that is r

Turkey is nice, been a few times. You really need to become immune from this kind of thing, or at least play them at their own game. If they say 100 euros, you say 20 and agree on 40. Seriously - they are there to rip you off and would sell

I thought that, and that Balsamiq Mockups looked way too simple to be useful - but it isn't! I rebuilt the basic look of google maps in less than 5 mins... The beauty of it IMO is it makes you think about the layout of the app/site, not the

I hope by broadening the target market (to any entrepreneur), it doesn't loose focus and become unrelated to its actual target market - web entrepreneurs.

I really don't see the point of it. Its like horoscopes, and its basing all startups as a neutral idea with the same success rate - Facebook is the same as Techcrunch which is the same as Twitter, even though they are completely different i

Sounds fun, some cool facts here: http://www.spacex.com/falcon1.php It makes me wonder how you deal with something like this. If something like this happened in Russia (or "somewhere"), and somehow the US didn't know about it, they would

Its very sneaky on how it works... For example, it adds "This answer is only available to paid users" where real answers are meant to be - but if you check right at the bottom of the page, the answers are there....for search engines to see,

Weird, I've searched python once or twice (never really used it) in the past, and don't get a Wikipedia article first, I get http://www.python.org , then the whole page is filled with python (programming) results. I've never really thought

I agree, but I also think using a framework is just as good in the long run... You basically have hundreds if not thousands of people working on your project with you, fixing bugs, making it faster, more stable, and adding under the hood fe

I did some tests on XP a few years ago, to see how bad it was. I ran no anti-virus, no firewall, no anti-spyware, nothing. Used the system carefully for over 4 months with no problems. Web browsing, web development and bittorrent. Normal st

I'm pretty new to rails (well, 3 months?), but when I saw this post last night, it was the first time I had said "Wow, that makes sense!" to a new feature. The old way was horrible, it felt like a hack!

I agree. Its not hard to get into web programming. Use a framework (CakePHP, Ruby on Rails, etc.) and learn the associated language as you go a long. I do have a programming history, but I learnt the basics of ruby and rails in a weekend! ;
