"…to push out a significantly better implementation of News…" HN? If so, will that be a purely back-end improvement, or front-end as well?

Doubt it, but does it really matter that Egg-co took inspiration from 37signals designs? Of course I'm not saying people should blatantly copy another companies designs, but that I don't see why people should ignore perfectly good concepts

It isn't that bad, I definitely wouldn't call it a "poor product". The radio feature is next to useless, yes, and in terms of finding new stuff, it's not great; however the pros (high quality music, practically zero buffering, and everythin

I forgot to mention, I use it on OSX, where the anti-aliasing makes a big difference; when I tried it on Windows, it didn't look that great!

No we don't, 1,000,000 is how we group. India, however, does group by two digits, with the exception of the first hundred: 10,00,000

I love 'Bitstream Vera Sans Mono'. I've tried tons of fonts, but always fall back on that. I use Ruby a lot, and it complements the language nicely…

Am I the only one who's a little scared that a company who relies so heavily on another companies' service, has got funding? I wish them luck with their ongoing success of course, it's just worrying, that's all...

It's easy to price too high though. Would you rather sell 10 at £4.99, or 100 at 99p? Though of course I'm not saying you should price at 99p just because everyone else does, just remember that generally, the higher price your app, the less

I totally disagree — the iPhone isn't that great of a phone without 3rd party apps. I mean, it has an awesome browser and such, but I cant imagine owning a phone which didn't have a big 3rd party ecosystem behind it.

Twitter is like the HN story titles, not the comments. It'll never be better than true communication. But as a quick exercise, I tried to get your message down to 140 characters: I have an account that I set up to use the API, but I refuse

Nope you've got it spot on. Facebook is like Google: it rocks and is extremely popular, but at its roots it doesn't really have much of a story to tell — it's not that revolutionary, if Facebook didn't become popular, another social network

Unless you did remember 2 months ago, but forgot that you did, and you feel like a dick because thought you forgot to do it today (and it's 8pm, when your mum is likely asleep already…)

That's fine as long as you spend the time and actually read the whole message first. I've emailed so many companies which send me a fully canned response copied from their help section, but even worse they base that response on the first li

Also forgot to mention, you can do the opposite with: "2n9c".to_i(36) #=> 123456

1.to_s(36) #=> "1" 10.to_s(36) #=> "a" 100.to_s(36) #=> "2s" 123456.to_s(36) #=> "2n9c" Ruby. Where the number is the id of the record in the database or something.

I have never lived in SF, nor have any plans to — but what are your reasons to be there? Surely it'd be easier (or should I say cheaper) to work out of Seattle?

Code less. Or a better way of putting it — just DO less. Start out with a plan, and spend as little time as you can in the prototype/experiment stage. Write down what you need to do to create a "minimum viable product". A minimum

Good points, it does seem a little outrageous people can go to jail for not paying their TV tax , however I guess it has to have some punishment for not paying it, else who would? :D

I love the BBC just because it's publicly funded — they don't even need to grab your attention to make a profit from you! It's a tax I can honestly say I don't mind paying!

Why is it a bad thing? It's better to have tons of shortening services, than a few big ones. Just to spread the risk incase one goes down. If tinyurl.com or bit.ly went down right now, half of the links on Twitter would go dead...

The pricing could soon get out of hand — a 20 question survey by 500 people would cost $200; who'd pay that?
