Personally I hate licenses like this. At least this one has been approved by the FSF, but I have to look it up. I see no reason not to just use MIT/BSD if you want a short, permissive license. That way everyone knows exactly what they can d

Stored procedures don't seem like a bad approach to me. You can provide versioning support by doing something much like Rails migrations. Providing access to the database through stored procedures basically is publishing business logic as a

That sounds fantastic. Is there a reason you choose BSD over MIT. I only ask as MIT seems more common for Lua projects because of course Lua itself is released under that license.

I'm butting in here. Check out the lists on the Lua-users Wiki and Wikipedia: http://lua-users.org/wiki/LuaUses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lua_(programming_language)#Appl... I use it for general scripting purposes, but it's you run in

No, the LLLL.coms have been bought up by domainers. They had some crazy bubble (which has now burst) for them as well. There are plenty of okish 5 letter .coms available.

This is a problem at the moment, but I can see no reason why you shouldn't have a read-only account to give to services like this. Also, many UK banks (and I understand most banks on the continent) offer two-factor authentication for online

I'm interested in the author's perspective, but this piece seemed to end quite abruptly and failed to go into much detail about what the author believes happened to eBay. He states "In a futile effort to compete with Amazon and Google, eBay

I hadn't noticed that. Wikipedia explains the licensing in more details ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constant_Data_Base#Library ) - the library code is public domain (and included in the public domain djbdns), but the rest of the package

It would be nice if DJB would release CDB under the public domain like he has now done with most of his other software. However, there's a great public domain implementation by Michael Tokarev I'd recommend: http://www.corpit.ru/mjt/tinycd

As a consumer of open source libraries, my vote has to go for MIT. There's nothing wrong with Apache but I really appreciate the brevity of MIT and BSD licenses. I know brevity isn't all you should care about, but both licenses seem to have

I don't know enough about Jabber/XMPP to decide how well it could replace email, but email is plenty fast for me. For almost any website with password reset/confirmation, by the time I click my gmail tab it's already arrived in my inbox.

I think you're really missing something by just looking at just the number of total hits over a month. How do you expect them to be distributed? What do you expect the peak rate to be? How slow is the site allowed to be at this peak?
