Regarding this comment, I have a general broad question for the HN community: I honestly find it hard to strike a balance between being extremely cautious in my writing/responses, and being straight-forward and clear. What is the right

As a PhD, I want to give a word of caution: Classes in school are really almost nothing like doing research (or taking on any large, difficult project). I still take some here and there personally, but the main idea in this article isn'

Yes, Google paid the entirety of 3 billion dollars for specifically the lines of code that are vulnerable. Sigh. Clickbait article, "Read"-bait comment.

Innovative, maybe technically yes. But in reality, these are not really game changers.

There is a reason! Most smartphones are not really designed to last many years; as such, many will start seeing issues after 2 years or so. On the software side, carriers are awful at updating Android security beyond a couple of years, for

Yep! I agree with everything you mentioned, and should have been more clear in my description of what I meant by a fairer way to average the results.

The author here takes the average of the conversion rates from different websites. Am I wrong in saying that isn't quite right? Shouldn't the "average conversion rate" be just the sum total of users that go to Toggl and

Is the main plot a little confusing? At least, I'm a little confused: the x-axis is labelled "% change from 2016 to 2015", and for example ReactJS has gone up by over 150% from 2016 to 2015...which means there was more ReactJ

It is only linear in std::distance(first, last), so it very well might be (and likely is) nlogk . Edit: see comment below for why it actually is O(n) and not O(n logk) as I had thought.

You don't think this would drive data scientists to use Google's cloud platform? I.e., if the most well-known data science competition uses the platform, then they will use it after the fact since it's what they know best. Ri

This is a pretty common rant on HN and other tech enthusiast sites. My main qualm is your note that tech bloggers love the thinness and that people will buy it based on their recommendation. A) do most people really read tech blogs to figur
