Thanks for the downvote. Didn't realize I was on reddit. > Don't exaggerate, don't use hyperbole, don't lie, don't be immature, I did none of those things. I used a device called humor. Perhaps you have none.

Who cares what is legal/illegal. That's missing the point. Under the PATRIOT Act raping and torturing infants is legal[1]. When corrupt politicians make corrupt laws, the only thing that should matter is what is morally correct

I disagree. I have an old IBM ThinkPad from the era when IBM still made PCs. Dell is pretty close. Their laptops are on the shitty Toshiba-ish side of things, granted (although higher quality build). But their monitors and keyboards are

I don't like unattended or scheduled delivery. This is what Vons does, in LA. However, we also have Yummy.com which provides delivery instantly. I've bought from them a few times, and they show up literally faster than a pizza

This is what ultimately did 3D Realms and Duke Nukem Forever in. There was a lot of overlap between Apogee Software (later, 3D Realms) and id Software in the early days. The mantra of 3D Realms was, during Nuke Forever, that the game will

China's growth is being sustained by a development bubble, where they are accumulating the infamous ghost towns. But I've never heard anyone deny the fact that they are doing these things. And, of course, everyone in the US alre

Yeah, I really can't believe that hasn't been fixed by now. Not only that, but it's impossible to follow discussions here. You have to go through your comment history to find threads you reply to.

This must be red herring day on HN. USD may be the most ubiquitous currency on the planet. However, go visit a country like Japan. Once you're out of reach of any currency exchange, you won't have much luck using your USD. Iron

$1000, for 1/12000000th the total current supply of bitcoins in existence? Sounds like a deal to me. The same fraction of USD is $100,000. There are 313 million people in the US. These are the majority of people using the dollar.

Entering credit cards into a '90s site was a scary thing. I saw what a number of sites did. Plaintext files with hundreds and thousands of credit card numbers. Just sitting there. Waiting for some random script kiddie to come along

Quake 3 was pure perfection. That game never crashed. And I was playing on Linux in the bad old days of the late '90s, when sound and graphics drivers were spotty at best. I don't think we'll see anything like it again.

First Winamp, and now John Carmack leaves id. This has been a brutal week. On one hand, it's exciting to see John working on VR tech. I really do hope we see something amazing out of it. But it still feels wrong, an id Software wit

It's tremendously easy to contribute to open source. The problem is, everyone wants to get their name in the Linux kernel. It's just not happening. The technical bar is too high. Pick something less visible. There are literal
