This is not entirely true. The poor may value their time like anyone else, but they often have a very different grasp on the time/money tradeoff. Not having money warps the value of time since (for the poor) lack of money is acute and

This, at least in concept, looks like a potential successor to printf() et al. The general accessibility of it is lacking given that it's a C-only API at the moment (there don't appear to be bindings for other languages), and I&#x

We applied some advice that I saw on a HN thread years ago (but sadly do not have the link handy) and it has worked well: we pay our candidates for their time. The take home concept really is insulting when a candidate’s time isn’t valued.

As usual of "reporting" in the United States this is devoid of anything beyond informing the reader that something happened. Tipping in this country should be called what it is: customer subsidization of service worker wages. Rest

The design should also fix the worst parts of using a box fan: 1. Make less noise. 2. Use less electricity. Point #1 is not the worst part of a box fan for many people, myself included. I have a lot of fond memories from growin

A simple maxim that our investors basically demanded of us was: "Sell, design, build". Accepting that approach had two pretty noticeable benefits: 1) We didn't spend a lot of time building something nobody wanted (which is th

TLDR; No, you can't (for now). This was a little bit of an uncomfortable read as I really didn't want to see this defeated, but I'm glad people are checking that it works as intended. The pessimist in me fears that when SIP b

Yes, I'm aware of that. The commenter seems to be implying that one should stop using a shell script when one needs "true" random, and I'm curious as to why since one can call out to Perl, Python, etc. The linked gist do

One of the biggest travesties of American culture is that people like Grace Hopper are not lionized on television. The best we've been able to do is the occasional appearance of intellectuals on late night or premium channels. There wa
