Feels very outdated. 1. Use zsh, not bash. AUTO_PUSHD, CORRECT_ALL and tons of other options make some tricks redundant. Also, the zle M-n and M-p are more useful than C-r imo. 2. Use tmux, not screen. 3. Use z ( https://github.com/rupa/z

Yes; I don't see why not. I haven't stress-tested this enough to tell for certain though.

Revisions of individual files only. Yeah, you can't do that kind of sorcery with phoenixfs. † Fixed. Sorry about that.

1. I only use (a modified version of) packfile/ packfile idx from Git. No commits are actually created. It sounds like you're looking for something like flashbake ( http://bitbucketlabs.net/flashbake/ ). 2. phoenixfs doesn't create commit

There's a FUSE for OS X, so a port should be possible (should be possible for other *nix too, as long as they have FUSE). I currently don't have access to an OS X machine, so no immediate plans.

Yes. The event is called `release`: see phoenixfs_release() in fuse.c:374.

The seamless workflow that only a full-blown filesystem can offer- new revisions are created automatically when files are edited and saved.

It's a bit of an overkill for my purposes- I've only copied out (and modified) a little of the packfile/ packfile index generation code from git.git. Plus, dealing with the actual code is a great learning exercise :)

True, I use Debian myself and can't stand OS X. I meant that for an average end-user, OS X makes more sense.

I doubt the dichotomy is between the cathedral and the bazaar. All software projects have a list of gatekeepers or maintainers, who decide which changes should go in and which ones shouldn't. Some of them have a long list of people with co

It's not at all surprising; it's what happens when Indian society tries to push everyone into either engineering or medicine. You come up with a huge number of bad engineering colleges to meet the demand, which in churn out bad engineers.

Any normal directory can be mounted with the PhoenixFS filesystem driver. It essentially traps all the normal filesystem calls like readdir, opendir, read, and release to transparently keep revision history for every file. Since all the cal

I know many people manually track what they eat, how much they spend, how long they spend in the gym, which books they read, and which movies they watch on a daily basis. I think it'll just be a matter of time before people make all this in
