Oh god, yes. I noticed that cmd+a thing (I really want to call it a bug) a while back. That's the kind of nonsense I expect (and receive) from something like GIMP on OS X. But a program that was coded from relative scratch to run on th

My understanding of that tweet would be that he is echoing the general sentiment that many technologists share that the web has made people excited about technologies that were better written half a decade ago. For example, all the hullabal

I for one find the interface positively infuriating. I don't have it installed any more, but when I was using Office 2011 for Mac I found that its integration into the OS, from copy/paste to basic UI principles, was horrible. It f

I really really hope I'm wrong (because I really believe in Ubuntu's vision), but what I'm gathering from this is that Canonical really has no idea how to make money.

#87 "Interface Coalescing" is precisely implemented across OS X, notably the Finder for file I/O. Also, you spelled "Coalescing" wrong :)

I think what he's saying (and I tend to agree) is that you can't develop the technical side in isolation from the actual design. Design is much more than appearance -- it determines how your site works, how parts interact, and can

What I'm curious about is what Nohl meant when he said that it would take six months from the time of his presentation at Black Hat for crackers to develop working exploits based on his findings. And if he is (as the article suggests)

From what I could gather, the sandboxing was actually referring to the SIM card itself. It was hard to tell through the layman-ified description, but it sounded like he used some sort of buffer overflow to break out of the sandbox and acces

I use a thick case (OtterBox defender series iirc), and I'm sure that's what causing me the extra frustration. It's by no means a painful experience, though. I guess I wasn't properly separating my daily experience from

I disagree. Just build a strong magnet in there (as was suggested, maybe via the speaker). The advantage of the connector would not be the disconnect-on-trip feature, but rather convenience for plugging and unplugging. Namely, it's a l

Sometimes I would really like to switch from Gmail, but I look around at the alternatives and think "do I trust this to be as reliable as Gmail? as stable? as dependable?" The answer is always no. I hope I'm believing an illu

No, of course not. It makes it unreliable as an indicator of the Apple ecosystem's platform status. Which would be fine, were this not the only such status page Apple provides. I'm saying it's lacking, not broken.

Right, that page doesn't even have the capability of reporting this outage. Kind of makes it a bit unreliable as a status page, you know?

The issue is not so much that the low-level drivers don't exist (although they are unmaintained afaik), but rather that there is almost no software available for Linux which supports real multitouch gestures, and certainly none (I

Fair enough, but I wasn't trying to make a claim about ASUS vs Apple. I was responding to his question about 6 hours being "good". The previous generation Macbook Air (Ivy Bride) still gets more at 7 hours anyway.

6 hours being good depends on your frame of reference. It's half the battery life of the Macbook (12 hours for the current model). The zenbook looks like a competitor, but I'd need to be sure that it's built as solidly as the

Yes. The package management is excellent via Brew (similar to archlinux's system). The "trouble" comes from getting the core OS to behave and play nice with the hardware. That is rarely an issue with Apple's platform, sp

Interestingly, the "Maximum income" (USD/year) is 2,200,000,000 (2.2 billion). Specifying a yearly income of 2B/year, however, puts you at #1 according to this. Why 2.2B? Seems rather arbitrary.
