Maybe it's time for a revival of idealism (in the philosophical sense of the term). Its rejection would account for a lot of the current frontiers in physics.

What are leaders for if they can't lead ? Should their job not be to convince people of what needs to be done ? They do a very good job by the way when it comes to pushing for liberalism.

I fail to see how you're not just waving hands. You assume that consciousness is an emergent property of matter, you think it's plausible, but you can't explain it or prove it.

People driving instead of walking or bicycling will be in poorer health, so you'd have to account for that as well, plus the consequences of air pollution, stress from noise, etc.

This reminds me of Donald Hoffman's theory of conscious agents. He posits the simplest conscious agent to be a binary one : it can make only one kind of decision, with only two possibilities.

I don't think the people who downvote this comment have really thought about whether they own their phone, their computer, their printer, their ebooks, their car, their software... We have come to an era where you "buy" thing

I believe we're heading for a very rough time if we can avoid collapse. In an unstable society, I want energy production that is simple and decentralized. Nuclear energy does not fit that bill.

They have also very successfully "outsourced" part of the reprocessing to eastern Europe… there have been documented reports of storage in huge open vats of fuel officially sent for reprocessing.

Energy is used to transform things. A high energy society is a society that transforms a lot, and hence will quickly reach ecological barriers, no matter how clean the energy is.

There's much more than IP adress that's used to track you. Companies like facebook use all the forms of browser storage, browser fingerprinting, etc.

There is indeed no mystery of consciousness except that some humans are incapable of accepting the fact that they are just consciousness, matter just being their user interface with the rest of consciousness. This works just as well (better

Unless you want the law of the jungle, any freedom you have will come from restrictions on the freedom of others. That's the basis for civilization. Speech has consequences, there are no reasons for it to fall outside the realm of law.
