I agree except on the "isn't easily repurposed" part. Nvidia's chips have CUDA and can be repurposed for many HPC projects once the AI bubble will be done. Meteorology, encoding, and especially any kind of high compute r

I observed censorship on every ollama model of R1 on my local GPU. It's not deterministic, but it lies or refuses to answer the majority of the time. Even the 8B version, distilled from Meta's llama 3 is censored and repeats CCP&#

A few details are quite different from 8, notably the boost and character animations, it's definitely a new game. Marketing will be difficult, MK8 already peaked graphically and has 96 tracks, and will still work on Switch 2. I hope th

Librewolf is not barely tweaking Firefox, it's disabling all the ads and tracking, exactly like Chromium does. Also uBlock Lite was not "remedied quickly", it took Mozilla a month to react, only after media pressure, gorhill

These results are meaningless, Waymo only drives in controlled, good weather, urban streets, while the human control group does not. This is not science, this is PR. We need independent investigations. And remember that currently, self-driv

Modernizing was the least anachronistic option indeed! Cathedrals used to evolve and expand over time. Now they are frozen in time. Just like the political state of the church. Major conservative donors blocked any attempt of modernization

FAANG has exactly the same behavior. When you have billions of users and no customer support, no one cares about the customer being right. Last month I tried to create an Instagram account, I kept being instabanned on 5 different devices wi

Qwen models have ideological backdoors already. They rewrite history, deny crimes from the regime, and push the CCP narratives. Even if their benchmarks are impressive, I refuse to ship any product with it. I'll stick with Llama and Ge

I was talking about text-only, filtered and deduped content. Most of Google's 100PB is picture and video. Filtering the spam and deduping the content helped Google reduce the ~50B page index in 2012 to ~<10B today.

This is the best (and saddest) answer. LLMs break the social contract of the internet, we're in a feudalisation process. The decentralized nature of the internet was amazing for businesses, and monopolization could ruin the space and s

Some sources update faster than others, you could index news sources hourly and low velocity sites weekly. Google does that. CommonCrawl gets 7TB/month, indexing and vectorizing that is quite manageable.

Indeed, the Apple Silicon hype stemmed from the terrible Intel gen at the time (unlike AMD), and because Apple monopolized the TSMC N5 node for months. Most of that lead is gone, x86 is cheaper, open, and as battery friendly now.
