Oh, there's certainly a kill switch. Jobs admitted to it during an interview, but it hasn't been used. The closest App Store comparison is probably Abuse (source code released into public domain, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abuse_(video_

I'm not sure if you were just using "digg" and "newsvine" as examples, or if you think they actually were aiming to be competitors. Reddit launched in 2005. Newsvine launched in 2006. The Reddit founders also didn't know Digg existed when

not really. stuff gets taken down off the App Store all the time due to legal issues and obvious copyright infringement. the apps get removed (you can't download them anymore), but anyone who has downloaded it can still use their copy.

The timing of this is way way off. MTV stopped being a music station well before internet piracy. And over a decade before YouTube.

Depends on the scale you are talking about. Can you create a one man startup and sustain yourself for $1000/mo? Sure. Can you create YouTube, FaceBook, Google for the same? No, you really can't. And if you are shooting for someone in betw

AppShopper's app hit the #9 spot of overall free and was around 150,000 downloads in a day. This was September 2010. These number ranges are moving targets as more people are buying iOS devices. So there's Top Paid and Top Free lists. Top

Seems nice, and I may use it in the future. Alternatively, I tend to just tell people to install this app and email it to me. http://appshopper.com/utilities/ad-hoc-helper

to add my two cents into this. This is my issue with 3D movies. I find it very distracting. A good for instance is that I recently saw Green Hornet in 3D -- not by choice entirely, since they weren't showing a 2D version. As an example,

It used to be a small obscure text link labeled "Read". This is actually a big improvement (though certainly not ideal). http://web.archive.org/web/20091028095024/http://www.engadge...

Not sure how many emails you send a day, but I signed up for sendgrid almost immediately after I learned it existed. ISPs have lots of arbitrary policies. For periods of time my emails have been blocked from AOL and AT&T accounts, whic

Find a name. Pick a name. Commit. I can't imagine launching with a "plan on changing it later" name. We're on the internet. Your name is a huge part of your product. Changing a name later is possibly one of the most disruptive things you

I run 3 sites which could be thought of as startups (each has employees). 3 is too many. :) I definitely feel overextended and that things are progressing slower than they ideally would if I had full time commitment to any one.
