I don't trust Google's gmail spam filter because of the issue with false positives. And I get a lot of spam, so it's impractical for me to go through the spam mailbox. I'm very happy with my paid spam filter service (SpamStopsHere.com) whic

There's a difference between: 1) fraudulent clicks that could be generated by a botnet 2) instructions on the site itself that you have control over telling your visitors to click on ads to make you more money. I don't want to come across a

No, it sucks. I was just objecting to your incorrect assessment that it went down like this: "if they deem they're paying you too much money, they kill your account".

This is ridiculous. Google makes more money when they pay you more money. The income is tied together. They get a cut. So, it's not that they feel like they are paying you too much. Many sites/individuals make a lot more money than this

It's not too much ad revenue. It's suspicious ad revenue. He had 6% CTR, which is high, and also seemed to encourage his visitors click, at least to some extent. It's not clear to what extent he encouraged clicks, but asking visitors to c

not sure. FYI, xkcd also makes (or made in 2008) it's money on merchandise. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/26/business/media/26link.html “People are generally surprised that we make a living from it,” Mr. Munroe said. Without being spec

I'd say if your business depends primarily on search/keyword traffic then hyphens are ok. Otherwise, no, since you are just giving away traffic to the non-hyphenated domain. Example of search/kw dependent domain would be something like if

I guess if learning is your goal, then have at it. But, I think the none of those technologies are really the next step. Next step is to build content/traffic to the point you might need to look at alternative technologies.

But why would you bother charging for it, when you are likely to be able to monetize it well if you got any traction.

That Skype uses supernodes is interesting, but makes some sense since it was developed by the same people who developed Kazaa (a P2P filesharing service), which as I recall has a similar architecture.

What about a RAID 1 setup (mirrored). If a hard drive dies, you just have to schedule a swap out, which shouldn't take that long, and you could schedule during a lull in your usual traffic. That would just defend against an abrupt hard dri

"and do something that I'm really passionate about, like starting a rock band?" What? This makes no sense. You're doing it wrong. If you were really passionate about playing in a rock band, you would already be filling your time playing in

It's been said that you can pull 4% of your investment safely while preserving your capital. So, figure out how much you need to make in a year and multiply it by 25 and that's roughly your FU lump sum.

Which at a 4% annual draw is a lump sum of $6,250,000 (after taxes), not taking into account inflation over the years.

The main limitation is not technical in nature. The App Store is a marketing force that you get benefit simply by releasing a native app. Can you name any good HTML/CSS/JS iOS "apps"? Either there aren't many (any?) or people don't know a

I don't need 1:1, but I'd love some large format 4:3 sizes. I have a 30" 16:10 Apple Cinema display as my main monitor and a rotated 4:3 20" HP LCD on my right. While I like the 30" monitor, I'll admit the sides of the screen go to waste.
