I want to find a new job that's more interesting, but every time I try it's impossible to wade through the piles uselessness obfuscating everything. Then I think about how much trouble it'd be to market myself and how much of my private lif

Yeah, if that's really their policy I don't see how they can offer a single public domain work in the Kindle Store. Is there a way to file a complaint that their guidelines aren't being followed and request that content be removed from the

I refuse to use Amazon for anything because of stuff like this. They will randomly ban your books, kill your services, and do what random politicians or Internet mobs tell them without any sort of due process. People love to give me flack f

To be honest, I don't view Gimp as a tool for working with photos. I prefer RAW editors, and find myself surprised that you wouldn't be using Lightroom or Aperture. In fact, I don't really see Photoshop (despite its name) as a tool for work

I doubt most GIMP developers care(d?) about Mac. Or had Macs. Open source stuff tends to live in a special universe where everyone uses Linux. (In fact, based on another post, it sounds like the windowing toolkit picked up Mac support, rath

In general open source creative tools have come a long way - with Scribus, Gimp, Inkscape, Darktable, Ardour, Blender, etc. all being quite functional, I think there is a pretty strong argument for the 'open source creative suite' being mor

Yeah, the multi-window thing only ever made sense for tiling window managers. And even with that it was a bit of a stretch. That said, I don't think there's a more under-estimated or misunderstood program around.

I'm not really sure what point I'm making. I agree there are large structural flaws with college (well, pretty much the whole educational system). Good teachers and good researchers aren't the same thing for sure. Likewise, many amenities a

Sounds like the path to breaking Google's "monopoly" has just been revealed... Seriously, unless it's just the faintest hint of influence I can see this blowing up in their face. Takedown notices are too ubiquitous and too often bogus.

Can't really tell if the last line is sarcasm for sure (I think it is?). I can't stand when people are taught to listen instead of think, and that predilection of mine is why I can't see the sub-prime mortgage crisis as being at all similar

I agree education (and even more particularly, the method and quality of teaching) is a problem, but it's not the same problem as student debt. As far as I can tell, much of the (debt) problem is caused by bad decision making by clueless pa

Maybe I'm crazy, but I often include small helper classes in the same file as a larger class, though I guess it's mostly because PHP can't do inner or nested classes, which are useful here and there. I have to agree, though, that in PHP the

I guess the issue is that you have to store the CC number? With Braintree you could put customer CC numbers in their vault and then manually run the transaction later, but it'd cost you a flat fee plus a penny or two per/card/month. (They d

I think this has more to do with the fact that in most workplaces once something works it's taboo to 'waste' more time on it (or even if it's not taboo, it becomes low priority compared to more 'critical' issues), than it does with the part

I think the wikipedia post is a great example. I love wikipedia, but it is poorly designed. In fact, there has recently been speculation that the decline in new editors is due to wikipedia being too arcane, particularly on the edit side. De
