I really think they should have taken the advertising route. A couple of google ads would have been enough to fund the site, and they would be less of a nuisance than they're fundraising ads. In fact, I think if they had become a for-profit

I think a practical way to implement simple version would be through Google CSE, but you would have more control if you roll your own search.

I agree. Often the benefits of these kind of things outweigh the risks of abuse. Law-abiding citizens rarely have what to fear from normal "surveillance".

I used to have https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#compose bookmarked to avoid needing 2 steps to write a mail, but then Gmail came out with their new compose box. But the above lets you avoid the sidebar entirely..

Nice. I think you should try to make it more space-efficient so people can view it on smaller screens. The boxes can be packed closer together, even if you keep a fixed grid. I wonder if you could also let it serve as a Wizard for people ba

Last time I checked, I don't think craigslist was the place to go to avoid scams. eBay has a fairly reliable system in place, even if there's occasional issues. craigslist is filled with scammers.

I guess that's somewhat similar, but it still costs $5k. I was thinking more of a group that gets together and codes for a few weeks, and somehow finds a mentor to help them when they're stuck.

Its pretty crazy that students can learn more practical skills in 2 months there than by majoring in CS for 4 years at many colleges. I wonder though if there could be a more independent model for this kind of thing. Perhaps like the "N-red

I think this is something that could be very helpful. In college, I didn't get so much feedback on code, so I would be interested in having a "coding coach". In fact, I wonder if anyone would be interested in helping a small group get bette
