That's because smartphones are objectively superior. When they are banned, a niche will become available for dumb phones and manufacturers to fill. Still having access to janky internet is not perfect yes, but I would argue it is still

Every time this comes up I always take the opportunity to suggest that it should've been a ban on _smart_phones. Not dumb phones, not laptops, not even tablets (i.e. those without sim). Easier to enforce, you don't have to rely on

Sure the issue was always there for you or people like you. But for a majority of the EU population there was no problem until very recently. And now people like you are starting to have more leverage to influence people who can make the ri

I can't comprehend how a population can kill that many of their own people. They aren't even an "other" people, which has been the most common scapegoat lately. Same skin color, same religion, same language, same homelan

no that's crazy talk. There must be some super obscure technological solution to a societal problem. Ideally something that can be sold as a SaaS.

Ban on the smartphone device itself. Like banning kids from access to alcohol. They can still use dumb phones. Or laptops. Or even tablets. Just not smartphones. In my mind, that will be enough to short circuit the network effects of social

You can still educate? Nothing about banning the physical access outside prevents you from educating. They can still have accounts, the platforms can continue what they have been doing for years. Not too different from educating a child abo

Social media is unlike any other problem parents are facing. It is not enough to stop your own children from accessing it or educating your own children. It needs collective action from _all_ parents or else your child will be an outcast.

Just ban under 16’s from owning and operating smartphones. It’s physical so easier to enforce at point of sale, during school, at the mall, etc. eventually the social pressure will hopefully subside so home enforcement becomes a non-issue.

I think there’s a subset of people who don’t have an inner voice. I assume thinking step by step in their head doesn’t work like most people. I’m glad LLMs help these people. But I’m not gonna trade society because a subset of people can’t
