thanks for replying. I understand much better now. I definitely agree with the family being most important part. It can become too trite of a response, so i'll add color by extending it to the _idea_ of family - really it's human

you're justifying your life choices, which is fine, but it makes it too hard to get any perspective from it. $200k is not a high salary for SV tech, which i know sounds crazy, but a large part of this thread is about ambition and makin

Oh, I meant that the cost of business includes all the overhead of compliance, insurance, and legal retainers. I'm not exactly complaining. I'm still trying to start a business :P. It's just the purity of "making a bette

U.S. is very litigious. In high school I dreamed of being an entrepreneur. I still have that dream it's just wow the reality of the cost of doing business is brutal and disenchanting.

+1. "because I said so" and "when you're an adult..." are short-sighted non-fixes. I'm an uncle to a 5 and 7 year old. They call you on your bullshit all the time! And even as a non-parent I get that it's

Same with this article it seems. It's thought provoking. Worth the read. But the conclusion is rather underwhelming: it's an environment & societal problem. Also Big-Co is evil. That's not wrong per-say, but gee-whiz look

There's always been tons of money in marketing and advertising. Top brand companies have huge marketing budgets. Think coca cola, all super bowl ads etc. it's just you had to settle for inferior means of attribution. it got better

Your reply makes it seem like you're allergic to intimacy. There are upsides to compartmentalization but fundamentally we work with humans. So no, if your job is with humans, I don't think you can do it _better_ without intimacy.

Great read. Another helpful cue I give myself is "The opt-in". Always give your partner the chance to opt-in to the conversation. Opt-ins can be subtle or explicit relative to the heaviness. Opt-in can be a simple pause allowing t

What's your take on the entire premise of market research being mostly feel-good busywork detached from reality? This is because context is dynamic over time in every instance, and survey data pales in comparison to purchase data. Best

10 vs 1,000 years before AGI is a lifetime of difference. I liken it to "not knowing the future". All humans face the same anxiety of an unknown future. In this way, I don't think AGI is a _special_ concern to worry about any
