Most products measured in fluid ounces are actually rounded from ml. 1 floz is close enough to 25ml that so long as a product is produced in 25ml increments you can essentially find it in integer floz increments.

For sorting the table, perhaps. But for displaying the table in the first place? Static HTML is invariably faster in my experience. IMO there is just no excuse for placeholder elements with loading animations on a content or e-commerce site

All of it. Case in point: why does linting for a hello world Vue project using typescript require no fewer than 6 linting modules, each of which introduces poorly documented backwards-incompatible changes roughly annually? And why do half o

The JS processing and rendering time on an underpowered CPU is the issue, not the payload size. It’s difficult to describe how excruciatingly slow some seemingly simple e-commerce and content sites are to render on my 2019 laptop or how slo

10s is painful. A server-rendered app should be able to deliver that data, already rendered, in closer to a fifth of a second. Fast enough that the user doesn’t even notice any wait.

Except for a user on a lower specced device that can’t performantly handle filtering and joining on that mass of data in JS code, or perhaps can’t even hold the data in memory.

Studies show that greater wealth tends to make people less considerate and prosocial. One theory is that this is because they’re no longer as interdependent on others.

I almost never tell it to just write me a thing (what I think of as vibe coding). (2%) I sometimes write a pretty detailed doc or spec; have the AI draft an implementation; then review and fix it myself. I try to keep this to “reasonable PR

During the dot com boom, the scarcity of developers relative to demand for them was orders of magnitude worse than in, say, 2020. After the bust, there was perhaps not a scarcity, but not much of a surplus the way there is now.

I keep separate lists of actionable and not-yet-actionable to-dos. I check the latter daily to update the former. If I’m waiting for input from someone, I immediately create a future to-do that’s of the form of either “do stuff with input r

Everyone’s brains work differently. I do best writing an outline and then fleshing it out. Some people just need to go straight through start to finish. Etc. Most people do better with a draft pass plus an editing pass than just a single dr

Just as with anything else AI, you never accept test code without reviewing it. And often it needs debugging. But it handles about 90% of it correctly and saves a lot of time and aggravation.

So much this. The AI takes care of the tedious line by line what’s-the-name-of-that-stdlib-function parts (and most of the tedious test-writing parts) and lets me focus on the interesting bits like what it is I want to build and how the pie
