I started my company around "Let's build an awesome company we want to work at, making products that people want." That was exciting enough for me to quit my big corporate job.

Even better: go build something that Google will want, then reject their buyout offer and build a profitable company. Best revenge ever.

Due to a long-standing bug in the Twitter API, you can not add write support to an app without deleting it entirely and re-creating the app in their system. It will let you change the flag for future users, but there is no way to request th

If you analyze your current follow list it will represent exactly the tweets you see including the appropriate replies. In the "look up a user" mode, it will exclude all replies due to API limitations.

One consequence of this behaviour is that you will only get the attention of people who use Twitter the way you do. Some of us read all our tweets and only follow people who make this reasonable. We can't really follow people who post 10 ti

I started a company in Vancouver this year. It's going great, we're profitable, and I'm quite enjoying the tech community. I think the culture in Vancouver lends itself to creating sustainable and enjoyable businesses. However, if your goal

Good question. The only way to do it is to detect and encourage them to turn both Airplane Mode and Mute on. There's no way for an app to prevent incoming phone calls, which is probably a good thing. We've considered enforcing Airplane mode

Lack of a career path is part of why I left Apple to start my own company. The hierarchy is quite flat, and the departments are quite compartmentalized. Because of this, if you want to move up, you're probably quitting and applying to a new

Testing in post-secondary is usually very idiosyncratic. At best they teach to a textbook and test that textbook evenly. More likely, a professor teaches their angle on a subset of the topic, and then grades based on that. Because of that,

Apple mostly uses Sun machines. I was surprised to learn this, but they tend towards a conservative, heavyweight server infrastructure.

Exactly, or like PhoneGap. For example, you could write an Appcelerator or PhoneGap app and call into native code from a JavaScript bridge. Right now, each native API needs to be explicitly wrapped by Appcelerator or PhoneGap.

There's a lot of interest in the mobile and JavaScript communities for a JavaScript engine you can distribute on iOS. Games are one thing, but with this you could take cross-platform, natively packaged web apps to a whole new level.

I worked on SproutCore projects at Apple for a couple years on the iWork.com team. A lot of the pros and cons are similar for any thick framework: if you buy into it, you get a lot of power and functionality for free, but you need to fully
