Any industry with more people passionate about getting into it then there are jobs develops a whole host of pathologies from overwork and low pay to influence cliques, nepotism, the "casting couch," etc.

I hope so. Watching videos is a tiny fraction of per capita energy consumption. It's dwarfed by transportation, HVAC, and of course the energy required to make all the physical stuff we buy and the food we eat. I can't stand this

It was a joke, and he followed it by stating that Tesla gets most of its lithium from Australia. I did find it a tasteless joke though, and a foolish thing to publicly say. But then again Musk is known to TUI (Tweet Under the Influence) qui

I find flat more aesthetically pleasing but often harder to use, and I've seen data to back that up. Problem is that people tend to confuse the two and fool themselves into thinking pretty equals usable. Glossy vs matte screens are the

Seems like if it's possible to accelerate JS with a GPU it should be far more possible to do it with a many-core CPU. This bodes well for the likely future of dozens of X64 cores or even hundreds of ARM cores on a higher-end desktop&#x

As much as I hate Trump, I must admit that the alternative at the time involved continuing to pretend China is an ally. HRC was a principal driver of the Trans Pacific Partnership. I've heard claims that it was about containing China b

Any place that executes people for minor crimes or non-crimes is pretty awful on human rights issues. Couple that with its status as a single party state, corporal punishment for minor infractions, the fact that it is awful on LGBT issues,

The political will to move forward is a great counterpoint to my original post, and I disagree that the USA has a lot of that. If anything the USA seems ruled by an entrenched political caste wedded deeply to old ideas and old ways of doing

There are a lot of people from SF on here. I think that's part of what powers HN's wing of totalitarian utopians. SF is itself a dystopia, an open air psychiatric hospital that is simultaneously unaffordable and smells like piss.

I agree about OOP being marketed that way. I remember that time. Rejecting it utterly and making it an "anti-buzzword" is equally irrational. It's a tool. Use it when appropriate.
