Linux does this too. It uses 100% of your ram always, using free memory as cache. Actually figuring out free RAM is kind of confusing.

I have an M1 Max. Splurged a little. It continues to be able to do huge builds and run mid tier open weights AI models at usable speed. This does look like a nice machine though. I’ll probably wait for the M6 Max. If/when RAM comes dow

I’m sure it’s always been around. “There is porn of it, no exceptions.” I actually didn’t say my opinion on bans. I’m generally against them with the exception of CSAM. I’m generally against legal restrictions on speech for any reason since

Sensors all over the tracks? There’s probably many different sensor strategies you could use to detect imperfections. I know that modern roller coasters are outfitted with a bunch of stress, vibration, conductivity, etc sensors. There’s a t

The AI backlash is interesting to watch. It’s both right and wrong. It’s right that slop is real and a lot of present AI is crap, and it’s right about the risks to employment and the economy. But when it comes to the first, it’s wrong that

ARM is usually bi-endian, and almost always run in little endian mode. All Apple ARM is LE. Not sure about Android but I’d guess it’s the same. I don’t think I’ve ever seen BE ARM in the wild. Big endian is as far as I know extinct for larg

Read the headline and thought it rescaled LLMs down for your hardware. That would be fascinating but would degrade performance. Any work on that? Like let’s say I have 64GB memory and I want to run a 256 parameter model. At 4 bit quantized

If it’s in the cloud it’s not your computer. I assume there is no privacy in the cloud unless it’s locally encrypted and only stored there.

Sure. But then you are paying via hardware. Good models require a beefy machine. Wouldn’t be surprised to see paid downloadable models in the future either.

I cancel when things do this. Paid, or ads. Paid with ads -> cancel immediately.

Is this avoidable? These things cost money to run. Who pays if not with ads? There will I’m sure be the ability to pay and not have ads just like there is on streaming platforms, podcasts, etc. Or should there be tax supported free AI?

There were no humans on those Starships that blew up. Most of the delays in Artemis are not around the launch system but the spacecraft and lander and life support and associated systems. Not saying it couldn't be done more efficiently

The Iranian people overthrow their government and establish what they want? My point is that an outside force coming in will help the current regime and/or the ideas behind it. Even if the current regime falls, democratic or pro-West

You're mistaking attention bait on social media for majority opinion. Almost nobody IRL sympathized with Kirk's shooter or wants to see people shot. Social media is brain poison.

What a gift to the deeply unpopular Iranian regime. Nothing galvanizes support for whatever-you-have more than an external threat. Think about it. If someone actually bombed or invaded the continental US you'd have woke libs cheering f

All these things can be done with healthy air and clean water, but the cost goes up, and people don't want to pay that cost. So we send them elsewhere instead. The same is true re: data center water use. Evaporative cooling is cheaper.
