An eon ago, when I was 14, I found out about Moore's Law and computers. I remember writing a Basic program on an Apple II to calculate the results for different years in the future. I boggled at the numbers that came out for these deca

There a lot of cases where people would gladly pay for service to get an issue resolved. I'd use that as a hedge against the people who just want to complain for free. Allow people to purchase a "certificate of service" at a

People of the present come from the people of the past. If society does terrible things to one person's grandparents and good things to another person's grandparents, one of those people is going to have more difficulties growing

I think your point is interesting, but what do you propose to do regarding the injustices of the past in women and minority groups? You can't just unilaterally declare that the field is level, and ignore history.

Could this type of transistor be used in stacked silicon chips? [1] It would seem that such a low power transistor would produce much less heat, solving one of the largest problems with the technology. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org

> But 65,536 cores with 1KB of memory each doesn't sound very useful either. You've just described the general architecture of the Connection Machine[0], a late 80's early 90's era supercomputer that was used for mode

CRISPR techniques allow for editing genes of adult organisms. Here's a good video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAhjPd4uNFY

CRISPR techniques allow us to modify gene expression in organisms long after birth; it has been heavily used in adult animals, but I don't think it's been used in humans just yet.

Optogenetics possibly provides a solution to the interface problem. When you can use light to read from and send signals to neurons, you don't have to worry about scar tissue at all, as far as I know.

I think that depends on where you believe thoughts originate. If they originate within the brain, the ensemble firing together (in some sort of organized manner) is a thought. If you believe that they don't originate from within the br

This is amazing. A couple of years ago I asked if we were able to use Optogenetics to build a "bridge" over damaged neurons or nerve fibers. Is this technology a "yes" answer to that question?

I have fond memories of learning to repair old black and white TV sets over the summer with my uncle at 14. We both managed to give ourselves some pretty hefty zaps. I still look back at the experience as one of the more fun times I had.
