Privacy concerns aside, I can't wait to read the "Facial Recognition let me on the wrong flight when I got in the wrong line by accident" articles that are going to come out of this. Unless these systems have some fantastic (

Did you see the chart of browser usage correlated with this incident? The only precipitous drop in any browser usage occurred when they launched this banner. It was already on a downward trend, but an immediate drop like that is pretty hard

Huh that's weird. It's been my experience that I see far,far more comments from people like you who are upset over "manufactured outrage" than people who are actually outraged. It's odd how much people feel the need

A big problem with increasing the clock speed is that your processor still needs to wait for the DRAM to respond. Modern processors are crazy smart about prefetching, caching, and running instructions in parallel, but at some point Memory b

Can you not make a coherent quadrature detector? I was under the impression that those were pretty common in optical communication systems. Edit: nevermind, 230GHz, so millimeter wave but mixers and oscillators exist at that frequency, are

I mean, yeah it makes them less profound. Individual identity is not entirely defined by place of employment. I'd imagine the vast majority of people see their employer as the means to pay bills rather than a political entity whose goa

Wow. Your post is so misleading it borders on outright lying. Those $31k contributions come entirely from individuals. Comcast the company did not donate any money to her. Conflating individual contributions with Corporate contributions is

The government cannot compel speech. I don't think that using the power of the government to require some types of speech against the wishes of private entities solves the problem you think it's solving...

That's true for IIR filters but not FIR filters, which modern (This century) signal processing uses. A 1024-point windowed sinc will have linear phase across the entire passband, that's one of the main reasons we use FIR filters.

The thing is that small changes in the mean affect the long tail of the distribution in a very visible way. How is it biased to point out extreme weather events like this which are happening more frequently now than in the past? The NYT has

I've had a similar experience making an FM transmitter. I used a small air coil inductor that wasn't well secured to the PCB as part of the resonating circuit. My FM tuner would pick up ambient noise since the small sound vibratio

Yeah that's the problem. 2x is too big and 1x is too small on 3200x1800. Luckily there's a workaround to scale text to 1.5x which for most purposes is fine.

I have the older 13" 3200x1800 screen and it is amazing. I put Ubuntu 18.04 on it since it wasn't available as a developer edition. The display scaling is my only problem but that's more a gnome thing. Running it with Windows

I mean, you can make a RADAR with a single transistor, 2 diodes, an exotic but off the shelf VCO, and clever transmission lines. I doubt the R&D cost is very high for for the MMIC here.

Yup. And in order to get a pulse of T you need, at best, a sinc window. Resolution is intrinsically linked to bandwidth.

Small nitpick. The range resolution improves with increasing pulse/chirp/waveform bandwidth, not increasing carrier frequency. It's true that at higher carrier frequencies there is more bandwidth available and thus better ran

I'm similarly skeptical that replacing 70 watt bulbs with 15 watt bulbs with poor power factors would end up being a wash. IR loses from the increase in reactive current would not cover the 55 watt gap.
