<dons my own flameproof suit> I think the blocking should be on your side. The Internet is meant to be free. Want to keep porn away from yourself or kids? Install an extension, or get one of those services that automatically blocks it

I'm actually not a big fan of that article :/ or rather, I disagree with it. I've been meaning to write my own piece on it. But the summary is: you can make it as easy or complicated as you want it to be. And I mean, every te

You're completely right! I meant to say that some parts of the application are written in an older style that we don't use anymore. For loops, indexOf, etc. are valid and there's nothing wrong with using them, we just use a m

Not a typo. It's a stage -10 spec, it's so far out into the future that no one has thought of it yet and the people to implement it haven't been born yet. :) thanks. I'm fixing it!

That might be the reason but it really depends on company culture, funding, and other aspects. I built an early prototype for our product in the first two months. Losing two months wasn't an option for a rewrite. Even if I could get it

Haha yeah, that's why I added that I don't really call myself that but it sounds better for the story. I'm basically a lead dev. I don't mind getting out of tech but right now, I'm here, and I enjoy the tech and I e

Urgh, yeah. I've been burnt by the "prototype looks good enough" for a long time until I finally realized: I have to use assume I'll end up using it. A fellow developer mentioned to me on slack that he calls it a "p

Thank you! Some of these things seem so self-evident but they were hard lessons. I've come to understand that there are a lot of business practices that just don't make sense to me until I get bit in the ass by not following them.

Especially when you use stainless steel pans. That shit gets stuck. Just heat up the pan, throw some oil on there, and watch it change. The oil usually looks a lot less viscous and that's when you know it's ready.

A few years ago I gave a talk at a university discussing this very topic. My view is that you should focus more on an "arrow" shape: - become a senior with one topic (you don't have to be the ultimate master on this) - have m

A few days old but I wanted to contribute anyways: I do a really fresh/clean install. I install tools as I need them and find myself leaving tools behind often and trying things out. I get setup on new machines pretty often: whether I

We use Redux where I work and we deal with a TON of forms, many of which are controlled completely separately from each other. Oh and it's an Angular 1 app and in production. Basically what I've learned is that you have to disting

Cinema4D is probably the easiest-to-use 3D program I've gotten my hands on. I tried 3DS Max, Maya, and spent a good deal of time on Blender as well yet it's got nothing on Cinema4D which is a joy to work with. I mean, just texturi

Haven't they recently cut back from free storage to like 15gb. But if you stored photos or something, they'd expand it to 50gb? And now it's 5gb? I've been seriously using OneDrive for years now (under all of its names).

One thing that makes a huge difference is the plugin ecosystem. TypeScript, as far as I know, doesn't have any while Babel has a whole myriad of them by various people. I recently built a Babel plugin that solves a lot of my module imp
