I spent my entire childhood in the USA. Every friends house seemed to have different TV habits. No TV at all, TV always on, TV on but commercials muted. I don’t think it’s a cultural phenomenon at all.

Middle America resident. My set of open ended wrenches was made in India. They’re holding up well enough. Though I must admit they don’t see a whole lot of use.

LA is representative of everything that sucks about the USA: excessively expensive housing, high crime, car culture and implicit racism. It’s quite clear that the Australian who is attempting to describe the USA as a whole actually has a ve

While I agree with the gist of your message, it must be noted that the State of Hawaii did not sell an island to Larry Ellison. Rather, most of Lanai, the island you are mentioning, was previously owned by a pineapple company. And Larry Ell

Everyone uses them. The only real difference is the medium. Hand written, electronic or your on-board biological memory system (not recommended).

During the spring, summer and fall, I hit 6+ hours by mountain biking 3-4 times a week. When there’s too much snow on the ground I use an indoor smart trainer 4-5 times a week. The indoor workouts are not much fun but I’m the type of person

Well this article hit home. A large chunk of my hometown burned to the ground last night. My parents still live there and are okay but there is no doubt that friends and colleagues (I still work in the area) have lost their homes.

If I had written this article myself and titled it “Lessons from my First Year as a Full Time Software Dev” a lot of the bullets would have been the same. Especially the Daily Progress and Get Excited bullets. Those two tend to go hand-in-h

Did this happen with Strava? My usual morning MTB lap has no cell service at the trailhead and it’s never been an issue. But I’ve also never found myself logged out before.

Dumb question: what does it mean to “vendor” your dependencies? Best guess is something like “ship required source or binaries along with your end product.” Like static linking but extended to dynamic languages and source control.

Something here doesn’t make sense to me. The retired 3G spectrum will be used for 4G and 5G (per the FCC article) so the antennas could be reused as the carrier frequency will not change. For a concrete example, if you’re running 3G at 900

I agree. Properly brined turkey cooked to an appropriate temperature (based on the part of the bird, not the CDC) has an excellent flavor. Turkey breast, in particular, is much much more flavorful than chicken breast.

The turkey I cook is not dry at all thanks to https://www.seriouseats.com/buying-prepping-cooking-carving-... Unfortunately I was not the turkey chef this year. Which meant decent dark meat but bone dry white meat.

The article mentioned that Go binaries have a fairly large minimum size due to the Go runtime environment. Is there an option to remove that runtime environment if you won’t be using coroutines and need a smaller disk footprint?
