I would be interesting to do a comparison of bugs found / fixed in CDB vs TiKV [1] (written in Rust) to see how much of an impact thread & memory safety have. [1] https://github.com/tikv/tikv

Of all the things mentioned in the article that keep Rust compiles from being fast, the one that sticks out to me is the multi-threaded compilation. That could result in some dramatic reductions in compile time. With a lot of the other thi

That's nice and all. But I'd much rather just build PCs in-house for work. It is just a serviceability issue. These systems often incorporate nonstandard power supplies, motherboards and such, making it difficult to repair and i

You can get a tablet running ChromeOS, and then install the Linux subsystem on it. You then have a full CLI environment to code in.

We have run btrfs in RAID configuration, but that has usability issues, even just doing RAID-1. We've switched back to using MD (mdadm) for RAID-1 setup, and then using btrfs on top of that for the snapshots, send / receive, block

I know some people going on a Disney trip soon. The cost and regimentation was staggering to me when described. You have to schedule everything. And it is all expensive as heck. I'd rather spend that money on flying to Europe or som

Forking the code is "easy" (OK, maybe not based on the other comments), but anyway... Another (persistent) problem has been the crates.io namespace. You can fork actix, but then you'll need to come up with a new name for it,

I think it would make a fascinating study on how mobile gaming turned into this, when PC and console gaming (while suffering from some of this) is still viable for people who just want to buy a game and play it without shenanigans.
