I use Klipsch x7i and they allow you to listen to audiobooks on a low volume setting in an underground train. Which, in Moscow, seems like a perfection. The sound is very clear, but not balanced. Neither an expert nor a musician though.

This just supports my observation that every image filter that works invariably contains morphological operations.

The last point is especially good, and from my experience I can say: leave the most complicated part of the system as a monolith until it's functional, and do detailed design of the easy parts. You never can really predict which depend

Thanks for the link! Now I know what to tell my students next time. C++ is the language of choice for recognition systems development anyway, and with C++14 it's actually starting to become beautiful.

Great analogy. Just enormously big and inconvenient pocketwatches with a lot of complications. (/me wearing wristwatch and a SonyEricsson W580 in my pocket)

Just use Linux Mint w/Cinnamon. It feels like Windows 7 done right, and works almost great on Asus ultrabooks (they've broken something about battery life in Qiana).

Oh how I didn't know about the Seiko 5 at all? Was looking for a sports-appropriate watch recently, would prefer it to the eventually chosen Timex IQ Compass. Though the compass proved to be an useful complication!

I often find (in my own code as well) that nobody ever remembers OpenMP. It has some overhead, but it's not that big even without fixed thread count tuning (with which it nearly vanishes). Not automatic, but damn close.

That's quite a win of the deceptive marketing. Since 2006 I don't pay attention to the CPU (apart from ISA extensions present, but I do SIMD development), the important components of a laptop being display, battery and keyboard. A

It seems more likely that some rich person already have duplicated some "key" discoveries and is happily reaping the benefits of knowing what does work, without making much noise of it.

The shape of lab testing in the U.S. seems to be bad: from the article I get that significant advantages include _upfront prices_, wide network of sampling stations, and results being emailed within 24 hours. In Moscow (recently in other ci

Very interesting idea, as long as there's some decent untaxed wealth level proportional to your average income level, like 3..5 years of income, in order to afford good sabbaticals. The problem is in the potential for corruption, since
