I’m in the same boat. I’ve never directly applied to the 3 jobs (including a FAANG) that I’ve taken in Silicon Valley. One found me on angel list and the others LinkedIn or direct email. Similar to you, the places I did apply to would never

I went in for an interview recently for the react core team and the guy who interviewed me said Facebook was trying to edge away from open source. He mentioned it’s not worth it to them as much as it was before. Too much to maintain.

I can understand the frustration with Slack but the comment about large companies using it doesn’t have much ground. I’m at a 3000+ employee company and slack works great for us. I think that one thing that has helped many people is to reme

What about engineering managers? I’m betting the average tops both PMs and SWEs.

I’m not justifying their lack of efforts for Linux users but I can understand why they limit their resources towards creating better drivers. According to Wikipedia(1), the amount of Linux usage worldwide is barely even a blip compared to w

I have some friends who were new grads and put on the security team. My first thought was, why put new grads on the security team? Do they really have the experience to protect this sort of data?

Started at a company that technically was not a startup at the point I joined (10 years old — 300 employees). I got lucky and 6 months in the company was acquired and all my stock vested immediately. Made about $15k but was given $200k in R

The meaning of high quality software can be argued. Another HN comment put it pretty well: >People are more likely to use a buggy app that has features they want over a perfect app with limited features. I understand the article is speci

My guess is that there were some engineering job cuts at least. I’ve had some views from Evernote engineers on my LI profile today. Could be coincidence though!
