Ok, I did a little reading on that one, and that's pretty close to genocide. The idea that everything that touches China is toxic seems reasonable, but it still doesn't explain why are we suddenly drawing the line at censorship in

I'm not defending China. I'm just surprised at how shocked everyone seems to be that media companies are peddling influence for China, because they'll do it for literally anyone with money.

What genocide? This whole thing boiled over due to a proposed law to allow extradition of HK residents to China, which is bad, but it's not genocide.

Yeah and the other one uses child labor to harvest palm oil (or did until very recently). The bigger the organization, the more likely you're going to find some bad stuff. Apple's got worker suicides. China has probably harveste

Both seem bad. Isn't the thing to be offended about that you're consuming media that you think is an artistic work, but it's got some propaganda mixed in with it? If you're doing business with Pepsi and your workers are

I think it depends who you are and what you like. There's more euphoric stimulant stuff out there, and mind blowing psychedelics, but nothing else feels as overall good as xanax. I'd take benzos over opiates any day. But I hav

Why is this such a big deal? If companies can buy product placements in TV shows, I don't see why China can't buy censorship. Apple, the NBA, Google, and Blizzard are all trying to make money. Somehow shilling for Pepsi is widel

Benzos are extremely helpful for providing relief from anxiety and stopping panic attacks, and everyone should have some and know how to use them responsibly. The level of utility of being able to turn off anxiety and fear is incredible.

I'm not shocked that Joe and Hunter golfed together, or that Hunter's business partners were there too. But there remains 0 evidence that Joe did anything wrong, and even the daily mail says that in the article you linked.

I know HN isn't really the place for this, but since you asked and I did a fairly deep dive into this just to know what's going on, here's what seems to have happened, complete with evidence to the contrary: From Wikipedia h

I always hear about identity being tied to work, but I wonder if that's been tested in recent years. Pre-internet, sure, that makes sense. But now that you can do literally anything you want as long as you have the free time to learn

Serious question, why should anyone have to work? It's easy to imagine an alternate reality where UBI is a thing and working is optional. I think there's a legitimate case to be made that freeing people from labor should be soci

How is the idea that we can remove all crime faulty? Blackstone is just saying that we shouldn't try to remove all crime because it's more harmful to society to try than to let some crimes go unsolved. His main argument is tha

Good thought, but I don't think surgeons are making pool-of-gold-coins money ;) I'd definitely watch the movie if someone made a dark film about Scrooge McDuck's younger years as a crime boss...
