It's good to see someone express this. I really hate working and you've enumerated my concerns about stopping. The conclusion I came to is that I need about $3M to provide a life-long safety net, then I can try just making enough

Well, sure, if you consider 55 as early retirement, I could see how people would be ready to check out and do nothing. These are people that have likely worked full time for the last 30+ years. What I want to know is what happens at scale

Just out of curiosity, how much do you have to grow to sell and where do you sell it? Is that the kind of thing you could do in your backyard for a side business, or do you have to have acres of property? Not sure if it's a farm->wh

I used to have your view about this too, but I've lost confidence in your premise that "society works and thrives when we've a common goal". I don't think we can really know what makes society thrive, and some of th

Is there an acceptable way anywhere? I can understand suicide rather than work, but that only takes you as far as "not working". I want to get to "not working so I can follow my passions".

Yes, that's one way we get homeless people. Another option is to be so toxic about the situation that you force the child out of the house. That's what would have happened to me, so I left before that.

I actually use RAID6 with mdadm, and it's also portable to different machines. I was kind of surprised the first time I moved the array to a new machine and it all just worked.

What I'm saying is that the cost of being on a non-standard distro is greater than the benefit the freenas UI provides. Even if you want to run RAID, it's one or two commands with mdadm. FreeBSD and ZFS makes everything more com

Sure it is! Cosmetics are an enormous industry for this reason. For men, it's more about having a proper haircut, facial hair that suits your bone structure (which is kind of men's makeup), clothes that fit, and good posture. If

I had to buy a mattress last year and did a pretty deep dive into the world of mattresses. What I learned is that there's no meaningful research on what's "best", and sleep experts say that it's 100% personal prefe

Remote work probably makes social skills more important, because your coworkers lose the benefit of non-verbal cues. I work remotely and I try to convey a lot of personality and availability to stay integrated with the team.
