I would rather take out a few thousand dollars in cash and burn it in front of her than spend them on a diamond. That also has the added benefit of reducing inflation.

Encoding those as the same code point makes sense. On the other hand, just the codepoint is obviously not enough on its own for rendering the glyph. The Unicode consortium seem not to care about the actual rendering part of the whole stack

But.. you already posted a solution to your problem - use chinese font for chinese and japanese font for japanese. There is no problem. I mean, you would also presumably use a western font for latin and another separate font for cyrillic, s

A very small piece of advice which I don't see mentioned here: OpenGL works in linear RGB (which is very convenient), while your monitor displays sRGB (which gives you better colour resolution due to how eyes work). This means that out

I would love to see maven in the browser. Have each webapp serve a pom.xml listing the libs it uses along with exact versions and be done with this hell. The browser then checks if the lib is installed, if not, it goes through the user-spec

Thinking about it a bit more, if Facebook messages are themselves free, you can set up a fake facebook account and run a desktop client which acts on special messages, in effect achieving TCP over XMPP. This is probably no more than a week

This has never been a secret. On Windows there's even a tool for nVidia cards that will let you see all the builtin workarounds for various applications and let you define some of your own.

I wonder if we'll see opengl-old implemented on top of vulkan. Actually one thing I would love to see is vulkan on linux accessible from userspace without any involvement of a window server, so that you can write the rest of the APIs o

Reminds me a bit of what I recall as a unix principle: The API should be designed so that the implementation is simple, even if that makes the use complex.

You could drop the copy-on-write mechanism and just use copy-always for fork and have a base register which offsets all pointer access (analogous to the mostly disused SS register on x86). There could be some mechanism to detect fork-then-e

If it's to be really secure, how about an RSA public/private key pair? Public key gets burned on the mobo, private key comes on a flash memory you store securely. BIOS has an option "disable secure mode" or whatever that
