I have an issue with this because a lot of my internal documentation is drawings at various layers of detail. For whatever reason this is what works for me, and it appears to help other people on my team. But they always lag. I've trie

I didn't realise Krebs was a person, I thought it was a collection of people using a unified moniker. To your point though, we're lucky to have 'unreasonable' people like him, I know I don't have the courage

This was really enjoyable to read - I really enjoy this kind of in-the-weeds optimisation and the author explains it all really well. I was surprised at how much Oj was willing to put on the stack! But my background is embedded and so large

As an example, when I used to work in embedded development I'd come across some weird undocumented behaviour of a peripheral in a device. Inevitably there'd be a post on a manufacturer-hosted forum where someone else had hit and h

> lend itself to making a team productive over making the individual productive That's a really insightful way of presenting this. I think if that's how I'd been introduced to Java I might even have tolerated it.

Ah I see! If your use case was read-only you might be able to cut out some of the binary size, but it sounds like Web SQL would've been what you need unfortunately

(in Go) It's a nice debugging story, actually number two in a series. I'm sure we can all relate to the sinking feeling of publishing a release only for the alerts to start going off

Ok I understand that, but why wasm size? Local-first works pretty well for a shared library, and it can already be compiled to wasm. But you're predicting based on the _size_ of the wasm bundle being the determining factor which is a r

I agree that this is a little bit overblown. I have come across this article [0] about a particular editor, but I'm not sure if this is an exceptional example or not Edit: it's been discussed before [1], I'm not sure why it

This has been a common source of pain for me as well, and like a handful of other similar things, my brain refuses to remember so I'm always retracing my steps on this sort of thing.

I really enjoy this writing for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Australian. Secondly the acerbic wit just tickles my fancy > we're serverless, because how can you hurt yourself without a cutting-edge? Just perfect.

~That page is the first I've heard of license-based downclocking. I know there's no ethical reason not to do it, and it's similar to fusing a higher/lower performance chip out of the same base design, and free-market etc

Thankyou for a clear explanation of how this sort of thing can happen. I've seen similar issues in profit-making parts of businesses, so I imagine it can only be worse in areas seen as cost centres

I wonder why they did a large version jump in one shot (v5.7->v8) and didn't do incremental upgrades (v5.7 -> 6.x etc)? I wonder because the promotion of the secondary v8 node to primary is a breaking change in this path, whereas
