There are different copycat versions of facebook, youtube, flickr etc, in each of China, Korea, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. People don't do what you'd like to see, they do what makes money, regardless of how challenging or cool it is.

Gah, it's not like DHH invented the concept of profitability!! It annoys me every time someone mentions they're being profitable "DHH-style". I enjoyed his speech too, but you don't need to pay royalties to DHH.

How popular is the app? Does it work nicely now? Depending on your answers to those, do you really need to rewrite?

The "more room" argument is silly. The techcrunch articles aren't just "taking up room", they're on the main page because people are voting them up . People like them more than the articles that aren't being voted up.

Congratulations, great to see the NYT coverage! I'm surprised they didn't mention Xobni for Yahoo! Mail: "And Web e-mail services like Gmail and Hotmail are growing much more rapidly than the desktop-based Outlook, where Xobni is planting

Good points. But I'm pretty sure hotmail still has higher market share than GMail. And though I use Ubuntu over Windows, but the world is still all about Windows. From a revenue perspective, Windows made more money this year than in any p

Actually, rss is reasonably mainstream. You don't have to explain rss to normal people! Most of my non-hacker friends use some sort of feed reader. They know that RSS lets them read blog posts in their feedreader without visiting the blog

Everything is a tradeoff. How much free time, over how much money? The general statement that Americans value free time over money is both useless and meaningless.
