But only because we generally are starting with a mesh and creating a low-res collision mesh from that reuses existing tooling. Mesh colliders aren't terribly ideal. You need a lot of triangles. SDFs can be a better choice in some case

See my comment above about meshes. Games should adapt to new representations, not the other way round. What do games need? Relighting, animation, collision. All of these can be done with non-mesh objects. At the moment it's all in it&#

I do wonder if we need to stop relying on meshes entirely. NeRFs and splats have potentially much richer representations of material and lighting response. Current hardware is very focused on triangles and bitmaps but GPUs are versatile be

I think I'm probably smart enough to follow this, but maths notation is so opaque that I get stuck the moment the greek letters come out.

Maybe they failed to find a way round the rules? That seems more likely than a spontaneous desire to "do the right thing".

I think we're talking at cross purposes. I don't want to learn more acronyms. I want people to use less of them. (or rather use them more selectively). I'm trying to improve people's writing rather than improve my readin

I'd heard the phrase but not the acronym - there's a difference. Acronyms are only good for communicating phrases that you hear frequently. For infrequent terminology it's verging on puzzle-solving. Sometimes you can connect

I didn't read the comment as especially snarky. Your response was both snarky and personal which I think comes across much worse.
