And what is the point of all this? I find it amuzing when some dandruff covered geek explains this to me and then I point them to a video of Jimi Hendrix. I don't know what Jimi would have scored on the Stanford-Binet, but the man was a g

Ha ha, that's a funny one... Seriously, provoking people with that word only stirs the pot some more. It doesn't make the world a better place friend.

Ugggg. One of the things I really don't like about the Internet are the ugly threads that tear up years of progress toward an inclusive/pluralistic society... I find even the title of this thread offensive... Sure I am a white male without

What's in it for me? I am interested in technology and opportunity. Personalities of the digital culture kind of bore me. It sounds like a waste of time.

Who is Aaron Schwartz? Really I don't know. But now I guess I have to look around and find out. Thanks for letting me know that I should know something about this celebrity, lest I come off like a bumpkin. Actually screw it. I am lazy and n

My wife and I have watched the trailer several times and we love it. Two of our friends are also excited about it. I don't know how you will distribute it, but remember that you have four customers willing to pay kronor here in northern Swe

What is the advantage of your language? The easiest way to present your language is to motivate it. What is wrong with SQL that you are fixing? If you say, "cleaner syntax", then good luck. Don't forget the history. Codd wanted Alpha, but

I would agree about the quality of publications and the pin heads who evaluate us simply by the number. It's really very stupid. On the point of teaching however I am a bit more optimistic ... in Sweden at least. I am fairly impressed with

I like scientific and business posts. I also like the posts where people talk about specific problems their start-ups are facing. But I really don't want to hear discussions of politics and religion, especially when they degrade into flame

So I was finally invited into Powerlabs and I had a look around. Actually I was mildly impressed. I have seen a lot of attempts at question answering and it seems like PowerSet is somewhat beyond state-of-the-art. The big questions I have a

What bothers me about Pell's blog entry is that he acts as if Powerset has already accomplished something and that this is just some type of fine-tuned adjustment. Giving a bunch of private demos and keeping the community waiting while hyp

I played with a fair number of them back in the 90's. ObjectStore, GemStone, etc. I think these systems really only make sense in the telecommunications, CAD, etc. niches where performance is critical. That said, the new trend in DB system

I have heard the Semantic web story since 1998. And I am very, very skeptical. Description logics (e.g. OWL) have been a solution in search of a problem since the 1980's. Really 99% of the effort on the semantic web goes into 'building' vap
