Having to run in a VM is also seen as a drawback by some people, including me. The VM startup time makes using command line tools written in Java painful and Java apps often feel awkward on every platform since they don't use any platform

Why couldn't it replace Java? From reading about it and my limited use of it I get the impression that it's meant to be able to replace C or C++ but it's also meant to be used to write applications as a replacement for a language like Java

I think it's more about making things more difficult for services like Netflix and Hulu as well as extracting some extra revenue from their top users who don't have any other choice for internet service.

Back when I was compiling Linux on a 120MHz PA-7200 I would literally wait for days to compile KDE and a few other related packages, but with a modern CPU I now wait only a few minutes. I'm not sure that Gentoo has any real advantages over

If you look at http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/storage/ta... it talks about the reduced cost of ownership for a 20PB tape library, so there are tape products available for large volumes of data. The SL8500 supports 500P

Have you considered offering to buy back the lifetime offers from people who won't migrate? It seems like that might be cheaper in the long run than having to support the old BSD servers forever.

I think there's a problem that this is trying to solve but I don't think it solves it very well. The problem I have is that it's hard to share hardware between computers. What I want is to be able to plug all of my monitors, storage, prin

I think the point of using Vim or Emacs is that sometimes you don't want a full IDE. Often when I'm writing code I just want my editor to be fast and not require me to take my hands of off the keyboard. Both Vim and Emacs have much better

An increasing average does not mean that the extremes are more extreme. That's a possibility but definitely not a certainty and it could easily be the case that neither extreme changes while the average varies arbitrarily close to them.
