Let's not extrapolate what we think they mean from what they actually say. Most people don't challenge their own opinions so even the 'locking your door' argument helps them begin to articulate more precisely. From the

Something that would be interesting is to follow code styles across people who've pair-programmed. Kinda like the apprenticeship model, I wonder if you could detect specific styles that get adopted and evolve over time.

Redefining 'civilian' also reduces civilian casualties. "It is also because Mr. Obama embraced a disputed method for counting civilian casualties that did little to box him in. It in effect counts all military-age males in a

At best this seems like an arms race but at worst, there are actually battles being fought (of a kind). I wonder what the digital equivalent of a nuke would be such that govts decide that diplomacy is better. Some kind of Digitally Affected

Are you seriously comparing docs in a different language to a colour scheme you dislike !? That is an utterly ridiculous comparison.

Letting the colours and fonts get in the way of something you admit 'could be amazing' seems a little short-sighted.

Js_of_ocaml is pretty cool and is used by folks at Facebook for Hack and Flow. For another example of its use see the awesome IOCaml notebooks. http://andrewray.github.io/iocamljs/

Nice article. Something it doesn't point out, which can become one of the elements in the cycle of name/blame/shame, is the creation of 'heroes'. This is the figure who throws themselves at the issue and brings it

There's lots more coming in 2015. We've had many requests about how to begin contributing so we put together some Pioneer Projects. We're constantly adding to this list and they're suitable for various skill levels. ht

I find it ridiculous that anyone worries about officer safety in this way. It seems almost perverse to me. If we're worried about officers prematurely killing people how does giving them military-style tools make that any better?

I don't think you're a shrinking minority at all, especially since the article itself mentions that people are concerned. The problem with this approach is that you also give up control. Want an extra feature or bugfix? Petition F

I find that logic utterly distorted. Give a bunch of humans guns, the right to use deadly force and then for some reason worry about making them 'feel safe' -- oh, and also absolve them if things go wrong (or even if they break t

I find this attitude confusing. You're suggesting that cops are the ones who need to be made to feel safer? That by making them them feel safer they might be less likely to start shooting? Who is protecting who in this brave new wo

Your comment seems to completely absolve the company that hired these people. Why give them a pass but not the people they're paying to do this?

I think this thread demonstrates (at least part of) the issue. If you've been hired then you're already past the first hurdle. The attitude that you somehow have to 'pay your dues' is part of the overall problem and is
