Useful summary of the challenges (and opportunities) in social networking. He's written two other good summaries too: http://markmhendrickson.com/three-pillars http://markmhendrickson.com/content

Circa 7500 hours or 10 months. I'm hoping to launch at the month end. Lean is what you want it to be e.g money, time and other things you sacrifice. In most cases I'd imagine, the more you sacrifice, the more you will be likely to succeed.

Remote is fine right, if that's your choice in business. Surely though, the joy is in building something with others - products, services, cultures etc regardless of success or failure. If your business is your life's work, I can't see any

Be yourself. You will grow as a leader over time regardless of your personality. Your success will, ultimately, be in your abilities to hire great people. Groups of people make amazing things, not individuals.

Yes, if you want to build something in technology (software more precisely) then Silicon Valley is the best place to do this. It has to be said you can build a technology company in Norway; Opera is proof that you can build software, Tandbe

At one time, I had similar thoughts e.g you have to move to another place (usually a large city) to be successful in business. Then, I figured out that by whatever billionaire list or financial metric you choose to look at e.g Forbes, FT -

Crunchbase is the de facto startup knowledge base. It's probably the most valuable piece of the TechCrunch business in my opinion.

Sound advice. I'm doing exactly what you're saying with my current startup, Lion. The way I'm doing this, via consulting, should help me figure out whether or not this will work out.

I tried to sell my website, Lifemall.com, on eBay however unfortunately it turned out to be a wasted exercise. Similarly, I also used Flippa but again no sale. Can anyone suggest another venue for selling a website? (On a related note, if

Good point re. specific items, I guess I'm generalizing in many ways. The overall idea is to find things that matter to people other than the usual things - namely these days, price.

The title is mis-leading in many ways though the premise is rather interesting. (Basically that we've been using the 'reference web' until the recent development of the 'social' web.) It's a intriguing idea - can we have separate 'webs' for

The startup I co-founded Lifemall, I think improves lives. We help people sell things they don't need. We help other people buy second-hand things if they can't afford to or choose not to buy new. Since we're relatively new, I can't comment

I use blogger, have done since it was the first blogging service. (www.alexmacgregor.com) There might be valid reasons to switch for sure but I like it's uptime, it uses static html and how I can login with my Google account.

This is similar to a marketplace website I co-founded, Lifemall.com. The relationship between social and commmerce is quite complicated i.e not everyone likes to share their shopping habits with their friends or people with similar tastes.
