I doubt many of the senior managers mentioned have CS degrees. It's like the old joke about the limit of Engineering as GPA tends to zero is Business Administration.

They could shadowban the reviews - so the reviewer would think it was being displayed. A bit deceitful but maybe better for UX.

But equally - does it matter? I would rather have less, but more accurate, reviews than have all of them but many of them being fake. It seems like a use-case where a high false positive rate would be acceptable. Unlike say, medical diagnos

Also young people can just leave if the economy is just feeding on them. I left the UK partly because between insane housing prices and paying for the triple-locked pensions of the elderly - the economy has little to offer young people and

Well there was the GI Bill that helped veterans retrain after WW2 in proper careers at real universities etc. But that's a lot more expensive (although maybe less expensive in the long run than having a load of unproductive citizens)

Didn't the Mafia used to hijack trucks? It doesn't seem that ridiculous even with humans - high value loads often have police escorts in my country for this reason.

I think at least in Europe the Switch will be much bigger than VR just because of the space requirement. Here you are lucky if you have a large flat let alone a whole room to use for VR and this is even more true in the younger groups (say

I can afford it but I find travelling stressful as you have to get to the airport, go through security, check in at the hotel etc. Also even though I can afford it, it rarely seems like the best use of the money. I mainly travel because I h

Yeah, also in Pandas you can do stuff that otherwise requires writing a custom reducer or UDAF in which case you aren't using SQL anyway. I just use SQL to grab and if necessary aggregate the data and then do everything else in Pandas

The rise and rise of rentier capitalism is by far the biggest scourge in our modern economy. Henry George and even Adam Smith identified the problems centuries ago and yet here we are.

Also the cost of living makes being a PhD student in London almost untenable - I started in Edinburgh before mastering out and at least there one could live pretty well on the stipend.

I agree but sadly the salary often is an upgrade and there are few alternative routes for advancement.

A policy learning approach is better imho - but getting people to switch to using a multi-armed bandit when they are used to AB testing can be difficult. People don't seem to trust the system to make the right decisions even though you

These days? Hasn't that always been the case? It's just that when we were kids etc. we had more free time. The Nintendo Switch has an excellent selection of more 'casual' games. Super Mario Odyssey reminded me a lot of

I'm from the UK and professors aren't paid huge amounts, but remember that salaries are lower here than in the USA even in tech/software. 60k is a senior software engineer salary (especially outside of London)

I moved to BCN to work in tech (from the UK). It's pretty decent and more companies are moving here now. I mean occasionally you see ridiculously low salaries but I used to see that in London too. I think the education system could be

To be fair though - the stellarator design is pretty cool as it doesn't have a plasma current and nowadays we can heat the plasma via beam injection. The lack of the current might make it more stable vs. the tokamak.
