I agree - but it makes sense to try to spread work out in other cities rather than have all the jobs in London with soaring CoL and struggling infrastructure.

From my friends in Physics he seems to be correct about foreign scientists - but that's not something to be proud of or emulate. It's just that since the Cold War the conditions in science have become rather awful.

Exactly - the alternative would be that students were doing worse or exactly the same despite having the huge benefits from new technology, teaching methods, resources etc. That would be far more concerning. As a personal example - KhanAcad

Yeah, but then you still need the time and environment to be able to do it which can be hard if you are working long hours in two jobs or whatever to make rent. Then you have the old problem that in many companies HR will still want a degre

30 years later and we have reinvented IRC, but worse as you can't use your own client, the protocol may not be public and it's harder to discover channels.

But if this is the case then why don't we see a massive amount of research and development, like larger than the Manhattan and Apollo projects, to ensure we get a technological solution in time? Instead we see that EU countries aren&#x

When you look at the poor state of the job market in research for physics, chemistry, biology etc. hell even engineering disciplines - I'm not so sure it's lack of researchers that is the issue.
