I take it you're a fan of the plan9 calling convention (f. ex.: all arguments and return value(s) are on the stack)? Curiously, it doesn't actually appear all that ineffecient. Go uses it AFAIK. I wonder whether anyone has studied

I'm sure you aware you can implement call/1cc with Lua's coroutines: http://www.inf.puc-rio.br/~roberto/docs/MCC15-04.pdf . But maybe you want the full power of call/cc :).

Sorry to comment on my own submission, but: I was always hoping shark ( https://github.com/sharklinux/shark ) was going to be actively maintained (it's a LuaJIT frontend for Linux perf_events and eBPF), but sadly it

I need to adjust my mental factor to 100x then :). However, you mention that there's not SIMD instruction for division. Then what are divps/divpd? Those do SIMD division (on x86).

Absolutely, I find Google's "The Dataflow Model" paper about this to be a good read: http://research.google.com/pubs/pub43864.html (it talks about generalizing streaming vs. batch vs. micro-batch framewo

Last time I checked (which admittedly was ~3 years ago), division was about 10x as expensive as addition/subtraction (rule of thumb, doesn't take the complexity of modern processors into account but if you're not mixing too m

Great! I remember last time I looked at Vis it wasn't so far along (it had no Lua integration AFAIK). When I started submitting code to Neovim my biggest desires for it were (1) Lua extensibility (2) A clean codebase (3) Compatibility

Awesome post, as always. I know you've at one point taken a look at shark ( https://github.com/sharklinux/shark ), which seems to be similar in a way except one makes probes (either perf_events or eBPF) in just Lua.

For bettering the mplayer experiences (but quite a bit more involved setup), perhaps one could use a web server like nginx which can server byte range requests. Better to also configure it to only do HTTPS, with some self-signed certificate

This is mostly to do with the syntax matching, the regexes used for that, and thus ultimately also the implementation of the regex engine (which was more or less swapped in Vim 7.4). It bother me a bit too (but not too much). Perhaps it can

I used pigz for compressing and then rsync for transferring my (Postgre)SQL logs. The reason being that pigz has a built-in "rsyncable" mode, which allows rsync to avoid sending the whole log over always. The multicore compressin

This sounds like a generally useful thing. It would wager that any non-toy malloc implementation has such a thing. Perhaps it's a good idea to open-source it so we all benefit from this spec-testing, fuzzing and histogramming?

Link for those interested: https://bitbucket.org/zserge/jsmn/wiki/Home jsmn is pretty awesome, and contrary to this (std::string, std::vector) actually puts you in charge of allocations. It's also in C.
