Hackerrank tends to offer a different cost-benefit tradeoff in interviewing - less time invested on the part of the company, and more time invested by the candidate. I don't particularly like this approach because I think higher-skille

An interview isn't a surprise attack, they're usually scheduled days in advance. Good interviewers will usually characterize what kind of questions you can expect to receive ahead of time. I'm sorry that you've had bad e

I did many interviews, and enjoyed most of them. I had some bad ones, which I either failed or refused to do. Software devs are very highly paid professionals and can afford to refuse opportunities with quite a bit of discretion. I encourag

Truthfully, I really just wanted to buy something instead of making CoderPad. I imagine it's certainly possible for floobits, or atom teletype, or something else entirely to get enough adoption to render our product mostly useless. W

This is perhaps the highest praise from a candidate we have ever received. Thank you, that means a lot to us.

Hi I'm the guy in the interview. I actually have a lot of thoughts about this that are hard to condense, so I'll just say this: curiosity isn't a personality trait. People tend to model curiosity as just something you "h

This is because "movfuscation" isn't a practical option for people actually trying to ship binaries that still perform well for customers but resist reverse-engineering. One of the battlegrounds for this sort of thing is the

YMMV of course, but when we used the fonts CDN a very large proportion of Chinese users could not access our website intermittently.

The other big technical reason to self host Google fonts is wanting your website to load in China. The Google CDN is blocked there, in case anyone here is unaware.

Oh, sorry, I'm not saying it's _good_ that this is the case, just that you'd be surprised by the number of small companies pulling this kind of shit too.

Well, it's more about familiarity with the system than work required to game them. I've met one-man operations paying effectively the same rate as Apple, they just know the legalese well enough to do it on their own.

I sincerely doubt foreign purchases are the main driver of rent increase, and no study has ever demonstrated as much. The anti-foreigner mindset is extremely dangerous. Rising rents are almost entirely because of local restrictions on creat

You've just linked a chart that you claim shows "lots" of housing demolished or merged over the last five years, but these numbers are tiny, representing far less than a single percent of the city's housing stock. The va

I think Sonja's study does more than "prove a point" - it also illustrates exactly _how_ "luxury" housing helps everyone, which is a huge sore point in local politics. Understanding of the nature of how flexible pre

This is patently untrue, especially weighted by number of units. There may be a lot of small rebuilds of single family homes into duplexes, but the projects that add the great bulk of housing units to the city are usually built on empty lot

While this is true factually, the practical benefit of the US registration is the social benefit of being able to flout rules. For drug runners, they have an easier time just radio'ing down passport numbers if they have an american fla

I'm interested in this as a technical solution, but I'm not sure what content I actually expect to share or see shared on Keybase. Public dropbox links work pretty well for me right now for "ordinary" files.

I would suggest thinking harder about making money, not less. I think these projects represent a half measure between _really_ trying to make money, and having fun. Real, profitable side projects cum businesses are usually much more boring.

All of those places are certainly expensive, but for instance in Seattle, 1BRs rent for a bit over half what they rent in SF. There's a ton of wiggle room in "expensive".

Sure, that's fine. The current level of what investors have demonstrated they're willing to build is by far below the norm for even SOMA. There is still a very significant amount of surface parking or 1-3 story developments in SOM

This is a very Malthusian attitude that hasn't really been borne out by the data. Many metro areas with similar earnings potential to SF do not experience nearly the level of crowding and rent gouging that we have here.

I think this is an incredibly fatalistic attitude. California is also great for many reasons beyond "great weather". Lots of people want to live here for family, emotional, or safety reasons. I've met so many gay and transgen

I don't see any theoretical reason to only choose two, and reject it. We can choose three. Building more housing to lower the cost of living probably has very little to do with the bay area's tech income potential.
