Or as my Dad often told me "Don't count your chickens before they hatch". This was a very important lesson for me. Don't spend money counting on "the sure thing" that is going to pay off, because often it never appears.

Wow, thank you for your insight! Now I understand why you should always get the best and smartest lawyers you can possibly afford, even if you don't think you'll need all their expertise. These two parties were practically made for each oth

FYI when I clicked the "Sign Up" button on the plans page, Chrome gave me the "invalid secure certificate" warning. I love the idea though. Any chance you'll include Ireland?

Thanks for the pointer to jQuery Layout! It looks very similar to extJS' layouts.

I really, really want to use Wordpress as a bloging platform, but the constant hacks / security issues have given me a lot of pause. Can anyone recommend an alternative, hopefully one with a bit better track record?

"With all inlet doors tightly shut, at 3.24 Mach, the J-58s are more like ramjets now, gulping 100,000 cubic feet of air per second." Wow... what an awesome job to be able to fly one of these birds! I had a friend in Boston who first flew f

[OT: that's my old Bishop quoted in the article. :-) I miss Boston sometimes...] I think companies are absolutely aware of much easier it is to get people to spend $10-20/month on a subscription where if the consumer had to pay all up front

I really dislike making phone calls. I don't have time to perfect my thoughts as I do when writing them out. I forget questions I wanted to ask. And I often talk too fast and thus stumble over my words. Email is so much better.

As a US expat in Ireland, I too love the use of muppet. It's deadly!

Semi-related: about a week after I had moved to Dublin from the US I made an offhand remark in a shop about being in the UK and was very quickly corrected. I quickly learned my lesson and have moved on to other cultural mistakes. :-)

Favorite quote: Nobody in IT should ever say, "You're my customer and my job is to make sure you're satisfied," or ask, "What do you want me to do?" Instead, they should say, "My job is to help you and the company succeed," followed by "Sho

Good luck in Ireland. You may have noticed we're in a bit of a recession here (note heavy sarcasm)... I'd wager that you'd have a difficult time finding a job in Ireland. Course both Google and Amazon have offices here so don't let me disco

My wife and I love Carcassonne! One of it's big points is that we can play with only 2 players. Plus the infinite possible arrangements of the board means no two games are ever alike. :-) The worst feeling in the world is when someone finag

Thanks for the link. These are great mixes. I signed up for a cloudsound account. :-) I find that words distract me - I want to sing! - so techno/trance/dance/whatever is great for me to code by because it's mostly repeated rhythm.

Hear, hear! I get flyers in my door all the time talking about "fast broadband" where fast == 1-3Mb. I'm moving soon and will be switching to NTL (cable) and getting 10Mb/1Mb for less money. Death to Eircom and their €26/mo line rental char

Thanks for the pointer to the site. My wife (a CIA-trained chef) would definitely tell me the old name was 'geeky', but probably love the recipes based on my quick look through the site. Very nice design, and fabulous pictures. Who doesn't
